I'm relatively fit compared to the general public (I can do 10 pull ups, squat 100kg, run for 5km pretty easily) but I have a large gut.
The issue is that it is very firm and I can feel my abs not far from the surface, how do I lose this gut?
Is my core too big, is my stomach explanded from eating regularly or is it simply a case of losing weight that's necessary?

not all fat is stored right underneath your skin. a lot of it is stored around the orgrans in your abdomen. it's called visceral fat, and your problem of having a large gut is pretty common for guys. so you're just fat. lose weight and your gut will disappear.

Fat around inner organs pushes out everything else. Clean your diet and lose fat.

Not OP but is the rate at which you gain and lose visceral fat completely out of your control?
