A fitting picture for this question, I hope.
All right. If you're a committed runner or cardiofag in general, tell me this:
I haven't exercised for something like one year. I finally hopped onto the treadmill yesterday and again tonight. In 40 minutes I ran 4 miles. How bad is that? Obviously I can go at a faster speed than 10 minutes per mile but I can't really hold it over a long distance.
Lastly: if you know of people who started in my position, what's a reasonable amount of time to get to even 8 minutes per mile (assuming long distance/consistently)? In other words, what kind of progress can I expect from doing this about 5 days per week?
Many thanks for any input!
Pls :(

That's not bad desu. Remember most of Americans are fat land whales so you're relatively in great shape.

Howdy friend. I do 4 miles on the treadmill in a little under 28 minutes. I would start off by doing 5ks (about 3 miles) for a month or two and work on getting your time down and then move up to longer distances. I would focus more on getting a constant pace than just extending the time out.
I never ran before and I did a 5k in 23 mins
Start alternating easy and harder runs during the week. Add in a long run and take at least one day to do some interval/tempo work. Gradually add mileage every few weeks. As long as you stick to the process, you'll get much faster.
