i've had to quit lifting because of recurring pnuemothoraxs (air escaping lungs into chest).
I was in and out of the hospital a few times for these. It was always painful but only one required a chest tube.
one doctor suggested i get a surgery operation to prevent more from occurring. i forgot the name of it. something about gluing the expanding part to the entire wall.
i don't understand how lungs can even work without expanding. it would probably decrease lung capacity a lot. can someone explain this to me?
if i had this done could i ever into lifting again?
sounds like it would hurt my performance.
lungs are like metaphorically glued to ribs and diaphragma. they move only when rib muscles and diaphragma contracts and relaxes
dunno about performance, thats a question you had to ask your doc.

pleurodesis?
basically you irritate the the lining to cause inflammation that welds the parietal and visceral pleura together.
not sure about performance etc.
quit deadlift?

thats metaphorically bs- there are two membranes- visceral and parietal pleura. The innermost membrane the visceral pleura is attached to your lungs. the outermost membrane is the parietal pleura which is attached to your ribcage. There is fluid in the moddle which allows the two to move across each other and limits friction. The liquid is a potential space under negative pressure so helps to keep your lungs inflated.
