recently had an interview at another company, they had a concern though, a funny question was what do i do for stress relief? i pretty much amn a wage slave right now, im a dedicated engineer and many other companies dont do stuff like this, i have been running multiple projects since my promotion in june and it has caused me to be over stressed a lot, im currently on vacation back home at my parents place, also waiting on the news from that interview, should be hearing back next week

a couple of things, i am over qualifed for this offer, but it will pay 80k, and I'm comfortable with that even if it means more pay but less work, this company doesn't have nearly as much work i currently do, but less work and a pay raise sounds fucking awesome right now

Thinking about leaving my job as a server. Been at this restaurant for 5 years and it's really killing me. I'm still in college, but fucking hell its kicking my ass. I hate my accounting major and I just want to quit. Everone from my job is also leaving, so I feel like I should too. I thought about going for a administrative assistant at a hospital. I'll get paid $19 an hour and I won't have to run around and kiss ass to get any tips.

I feel like the Admin job is boring, but I'll get paid more, have more hours/benefits, so I guess thats better, right?

I actually work out more when underway/deployed because the gym is like a 3 minute walk away. It's also the only thing I have to distract myself from my miserable life and job. When on shore I have internet, junk food, etc...

It's honestly a stupid cycle of me leaving to sea slightly chub, and coming back slightly shredded. I just wish I could stick to one.

Pretty bad at times depending on what i am doing for the 2 weeks at work.

Working 12 hours a day if i get one job ill be up and down stairs for the whole shift carrying things and various other physical tasks. Helps for a cut dont have to worry about cardio either. But it drains me through the day so energy aint 100% in the gym and leg day makes it hard the next day at work. That and I only average about 6hrs sleep a night when working.

We got chefs out here tho so I can eat as much as a want which helps as im 6'3 and with the added all day cardio have to eat alot.

But im still seeing gains so no complaints here, life at work is just work and train for 14 days straight then take 3 days off training due to traveling back home for my break and relaxing or take the week off training and go travel and party then fly back to work and repeat.

Pretty good life for a single bloke

~50k/yr

sometimes I am working close to home with a good schedule and can go in right after work and its not too busy. Other times I am putting in OT and shit just slides that eek or month or whatever. I have a basic rule, if its after 4pm dont waste my time. Otherwise the work can be physical at times like handling larger wire and digging or just some of the material. Its pretty good for HIIT all day and ladders and stairs ect are good for my legs. I can tell when I have been working overhead lot and my OHP fails really early on in my sets.

People who make gains will do it. People who don't will always have an excuse.
>>
>>39517829
It really comes down to how badly you want it. My hours worked are nowhere near so impressively soul-destroying as some of you faggots, but I was working 60+ hours a week, sometimes up to 80, and still finding time to hit the gym in the wee hours of the morning (and finish my sessions after work where necessary).

Firefighter/Paramedic
>How badly does your job fuck up your gains?
Depends. Most of the time I work 24 hour shifts, so I lift on my two days off. Sometimes I work 48 hour shifts and it messes with my lifting schedule. Other than that, firefighters have terrible diet habits and they're all fat so it sucks when you're on a cut

Working in the mines in Western Australia is over rated, the industry won't last much longer at the rate they're raping the resources out of the ground. If you're young and single, willing to shut the fuck up and work for 12 hour days for 2 weeks on sight after flying out it's a good way to make money. I'm not that anon but I live in Western Australia, my mate is a driller in the mines and rakes in like 3k a week working 2 weeks on 1 week off.
>>
>>39517761
Nah i do not regret it, you work crazy hours in public but once you go private it is easier. And i do enjoy working in teams / people i work with / working on different things constantly. Also, the people you work with are all on a different level in terms of their knowledge.

The real killer is studying for the CPA / CFA while working.... that part sucks. Just get an internship asap and aim for a big 4 firm

>>39517824
I'd get your masters in europe man, the cost of a masters in the states is absurd. But it does not really matter all that much, you just need to have some decent internship experience (large publicly traded companies) to back up your degree.

And you dont have to work crazy hours, you just (generally) will settle for significantly less pay
>>
I respond to written complaints for a utility company. Doesn't interfere at with my gains. Co-workers are as stupid as half the people who complain.
>>
>>39517040
not him but someone in the industry. 40-60k is normal for entry level in this field depending on your location but it usually pays far above average for the area. Certs/degrees just get you past HR and nothing more. People from all walks of life work at various stages in the field. From what I've seen its not propaganda as there are more jobs than qualified and knowledgeable people to fill the roles.

If you have interest/opportunity you should look more into it anon.
>>
>>39518034

No dude, don't EVER sacrifice sleep.
Sleep is when your body regenerates, it's extremely important for mental health, daily energy and proper functioning of ALL organs in the body. Your muscle also regenerates heavily during sleep. Don't make this mistake.
You should sleep around 8 hours. Sleeping too little makes you progressively weaker, in both mental and physical sense. More irritable, prone to depression. All your abilities drop.
No wonder that trouble sleeping is the first sign of psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia.

Work part-time in a grocery store, stocking shelves/unloading trucks.

Not too bad, I usually workout in the mornings and don't work until 4pm or so. There are some days where I have to pull pallets around that weight up to/sometimes over a ton, and stopping them after they get rolling is tough on the knees, as is stocking/breaking down the bottom shelves.

>I'm a failed accounting student, but I still people that I'm in school trying to finish my degree.
That's me (another career), although I still haven't dropped out completely, thinking about moving somewhere else, finishing there, get into the family business and pretend I just wanted to spend more time with my family and be more involved with the business.

How did you get into consulting?

What did you major in to do that?
>>
>>39515348
I currently study law. Yes it is fucking up my gainz.
>>
>>39520055
>How did you get into consulting?
Basically I lie and pretend I can do more than I actually can, and learn or ask for favours as I do stuff.
And it's "consulting" as in I provide simple services to small firms that I think I can manage to do on my own, nothing specific, but it pays the rent.

I haven't finished but my major is physics, so I'm good at math, and can code simple stuff (and learn quickly). Hobbies like painting and shit help me pretend I know design so that's how I end up doing sites too.

I make about 20k in a good year, and 10k or less in a bad one. So it's not something I would recommend, do finish your degree in something and enjoy working properly in something you like or sort of like, it pays waaaay more and it's worth the effort.
>>
>>39520161
>20k in a good year,
WHERE THE FUK DO YOU LIVE AND HOW THE FUCK DO YOU LIVE OFF THAT?

Also is consulting really that bad? A lot of my friends on fb make it seem like a fun career.
>>
>>39520181
Depends on what you understand by consulting.
I play pretend consulting, not real consulting. That's why I don't enjoy it (I have to live a lie), and make no money (since I don't have a finished degree and I'm stuck with low paying jobs from small local businesses).
I guess it could be super fun, popping in with a business card and saying "hey, I can do that for you, we can talk over the specifics tonight at this dinner" and earn good money. But I can't do that due to the limits I have without a complete major backed by a paper.

I live in europe (I'm afraid of being more specific), in a non shithole country and non shithole city.
I basically have to live in a one room place in a not nicest (but not shit) part of town, and my expenses are nothing.
Rent is around 300 euros, leaves me with 400 on avg to live during the month, which is enough since I cook for myself, gym is 20 per month, I shop clothes almost never and when I do it's at second hand stores or h&m (and have nice stuff from presents around the year), I have no car because public transport is nice, I go out like once a month, have no gf I just do fuckbuddies when I'm not depressed, and most importantly, like I said, I get 300 per month from parents for free due to the senpai business.
So, let's pretend it's more like 20k in a good year + 4k no matter what.
>>

>How badly does your job fuck up your gains?
Completely. Every morning we PT which consists of HIT circuits, pack marches with loads, stores carries up hills. 45mins-1hr of constant cardio. I cant do legs any other day except friday afternoon because the doms will impede my running times.I need my arms to carry jerry cans so that limits my upper body intensity. And the over ar hing fact that I now do 5 more hours of intense PT a week on top of my already intense weight training burns me out. And this is while in barracks. Going out field you live in rations, do no weight training and stomp up steep hills with 60+kgs of gear on you for 2-3 weeks.

I came from the Navy where everything was about strength. In the Army no one cares unless you can run 2.4km in under 9 mins and stomp fast without taking a break.

Laborer -Roofing

It's mostly walking up ladders, pick things up and moving them from A to B type stuff. Occasionally measuring, and cutting material. My hands have gotten stronger but some days are long and fairly physically demanding, but my current winter position is pretty low key and easy. My mobility has suffered quite a bit though, the legs, forearms, and traps are fairly tight from walking and moving things for most of the day.

Pick up the deceased for a few funeral homes. Pay is nice and benefits are pretty good too, with ample opportunity for OT. It doesn't mess with my gain, but it makes it hard to have deviation in the lifestyle, which has severely impacted my hobbies and extracurriculars.

I wake up every morning at 4am, go to the gym for forty-five to sixty minutes of cardio, then an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes of lifting. I'm usually home by about 615, 630 at the latest (I live 3 minutes from my gym). I shower up, get dressed, make some breakfast (usually eggs and grits/oats) and head off to work. Come home, three hours of free time, in bed by 800pm, rinse and repeat.

Its a fairly comfortable lifestyle, allows me to put money away, and still allows for socialization and light gaming.

I'm in the army (US). With all the constant bullshit, like details, taskings, last minute shit, a consistent schedule is difficult. Waking up early to do shitty PT means you need to go to bed early, losing personal time which is doubly shitty when you don't leave the shop til 18-1900 some days, or doing your workout already tired.

On the other hand I don't need to worry about paying my bills, money for food, or thinking. Maybe an even trade off compared to wagecucks.

Typical 9-5:30, I could work out 5 days a week if I disregarded my social life completely.
As it stands I usually make it to the gym twice a week, I managed 3/4 in the summer but now that it's winter my motivation isn't the best.
I walk and bike to work, back home for lunch and to the gym so I get enough fresh air and low impact cardio which is much better than my last job where I had to drive for 4 hours a day.

I do alright, I'm currently saving up to bike around Europe which is scaring the shit out of me but I'm getting bored of sitting at a desk every day.

I'm a hospice social worker who spends his days going from home to home to care and support people who are dying and their families. I love my job (seriously).

Often times I will have a patient that is a very fat and they are a bitch to care for because they'll require 2+ people to move (When you're dying, you often don't have the strength to shift weight or assist with transfers). Makes it a bitch when you have to change them (Everyone wears a diaper by the time they're dying, not just fat people).

I once had a patient who a year prior weighed 600 pounds. She went in for gastric bypass and over the course of a year lost 300 pounds. Somehow the process of losing so much weight so fast basically killed her liver, and she was on our service for liver failure and subsequently died from it. That was very hard, she was young and about my age, a lot of her friends were my age and it was painful to work with them.

I vowed to never be fat after that patient.

Get an internship or do a project or two independently and make sure to get it on your Github. It'll make you 10x more employable than most of the other people in your class.
>>
>>39516376

Learn a lot of languages, but make sure you know a lot about or are very comfortable with a few.

Internships and projects help a huge deal, but are not a requirement. Good grades /can/ be used as a bit of a substitute, but I wouldn't count on that. Depends on the place.

If you can do what the other anon says and have a Github, go for it, but don't sweat it if you don't. Both software dev jobs I have worked, no one cares about that in the slightest, but obviously depending on the company ymmv.

Was always too beat after work to work out, and rotating 3 shifts every two weeks had my sleep all kinds of fucked up. Tbh, still really enjoyed the job though.
