How I break it to him, /fit/?

You take him through the workout. Make him suffer
Just tell him what all instructors say. He will be able to do what you do in a few months, it just has to be a gradual process like growing a plant. You cant dump tons of water on a seed and expect it to be a tree overnight.

you could modify your routine and go easy so he doesnt break himself.
then afterwards when he is a little sore you can let the cat out of the bag and he might understand ho fucked he might have been.
Ive been going to the gym 3 years. On 4 seperate occasions over those 3 years a friend wanted to come with me. Because they were obviously impressed by my gains.
So they come with me, and I let them do squats and deadlifts, lower weight making them keep proper form, and maybe some fun shit like benches. And I kid you not, every single time, that was the only day they came with me. Because they always cried how they could barely walk for days after the workout, so they didnt want to come anymore.
Some people are just not made for this shit

Thanks guys. But he quit before the first rep. His flexibility sucks. Apparently he can't bend at the hip at all. Whenever he tries, he just bends his lower back. And I just told him he has a serious chance at being paralyzed if he just continues

He can bend at the hip he just doesnt know how
