Is there a point in lifting when you're cutting? Should I do cardio instead? I'm 5" 125lbs and want to lose 28lbs

it's funny, it talks about this in the sticky which I read my first time coming here and several times since when I had questions about this sort of thing.
Lift if you care about how your body looks. Don't lift if you don't care.

I do care but shouldn't I start lifting after I lose the fat? I eat only two 6" sandwiches from subway a day so I don't think gains are possible? Am I lifting for nothing?

Use mirror to measure change in body composition instead of using a scale to measure change in weight. If you aren't an athlete competing in a sport with weight classes, you shouldn't set a goal of losing X amount of weight. Focus on changing your body composition towards what you'd like to have. Scale is very useful in determining your daily calorie expenditure but not very good at telling you anything about having a fit or healthy or any type of body (obese and anorexic excluded).
Mirror > scale for setting goals.
Scale > mirror for determining a calorie intake matching your goal.
