Is dieting based on healthy food important or is it more important just to watch calories?

I'm a 5'7 manlet, just turned 18 a month ago, used to be 190ish pounds at the end of summer, started counting calories with and app and am down to 1700 a day, now 175 pounds, I've lifted for a year or so though so I have some muscles.
I was wondering if it is ok to keep on just counting calories and working out 3+ times a week, or if I should also watch nutrition also.

Total calories is what ultimately determines weight loss. However, what you'll find is that if you're eating junk, you're going to use up your allowable calories REALLY quick. It's just not that much food.
e.g. Say your TDEE is 2000 so you're trying to eat at a -500 calorie deficit. You can easily blow that (and probably more) with just ONE trip through the drive-thru.
