So I have come to a crossroads in my fitness journey. Long story short I have about 1500 dollars I can spend on a power rack, weights, and an adjustable weight bench. I have done some browsing on amazon and found a decent rack and weight set. Was wondering though if anyone on /fit/ would like to share their recommendations before I pull the trigger on it.

Why not just keep going to the gym? Most people I know who have shit to work out with at home dont use it. Plus I'm pretty sure that there was some study that if you have an at home gym your less likely to work out then if you have to go to the gym.

I don't mind working out alone, I am moving to a small town that doesn't have a proper gym with real weights. It's basically a few cardio machines and dumbbells.

No no no no dood hear me out.
It will take a little while but your gonna get a muuuch better deal on Craigslist. It may take a little while for the goods to come up online but 1500 on craigslist can build an amazing home gym while buying new will just get you something that works so-so

I might still join the gym just for a good place to do climate controlled cardio but mostly just for a social outlet.

I have checked and theres nothing i can jump on currently on there. I am moving pretty soon so I am running low on options there unless i go to a surrounding city should something pop up there. I dont like the idea of waiting though.

That doesn't work when you live in a small town in buttfuck nowhere.

The cage looks good. I like the fact it just has a straight bar for pull-ups.

The weight set will be fine, but that's kinda expensive for the plates.

I would start with a 300 lb set that can be purchased at Wal-Mart or

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Right-Way-Fitness-OS-300-2-300-lb.-Set-with-OP-No.-2-OB-85-OC-06X2-Specialty/27137654

http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/cap-barbell-300-lb-olympic-weight-set

These cost between 200 and 350 dollars. You can often pick up 45 lb plates in store for ~45 dollars, so you can get those at a later date when you need them for deadlifts. Or browse Craigslist and try to snag some there.

I would also get a stall mat to put on the ground where you intend on deadlifting: http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/rubber-mat-black-4-ft-x-6-ft

This help keep you from fucking up your foundation. You can lay sheet of plywood underneath as well.

Finally, I recommend getting some Olympic dumbbell handles. This allows you to dumbbell movements with all sorts of weights without having to spend hundreds on a full dumbbell set. This will require you to purchase a few extra 10s and 5s though. Well worth it.

noted.. thanks for the advice. Hadn't considered the olympic dumbbell handles. Guess the price is a little bit high for the weights all in all.

Also, get a dip belt so you can add weight to your chins pull-ups, since they'll be your primary vertical pulling movement.
