Hey /fit/, I'm just starting my journey (a couple of weeks in) after doing some reading (including the sticky) and getting some inspiration from a book. I'm currently sitting at 260 from 268 (6', 52" chest, not super relevant, but to give an idea of my overall build).

My big problem has always been soda. I'm working to cut that out, but it's resulted in me being sluggish and having caffeine withdrawal headaches that are taking a toll on me at work. I can't stand the taste of coffee (or at least any I've tried). One of my friends suggested using a fat burner to replace the lost caffeine (pic related).

Anybody have a similar story with dropping soda with caffeine withdrawal/experience with this supplement?

On another note, while I'm in this to improve my health, I also enjoy cooking and food. One of the main things I'm looking for, is trying to make comfort food (or tasty food in general) healthy. If they're easy to make, that's another plus. Any good references/recipes to share would be greatly appreciated.

(One of my personal favs:

EZ Chicken and Waffles (2 small waffles, 3 pieces of chicken)

1. Preheat oven to 425. Put in frozen Perdue Simply Smart Breaded Chicken Brest Tenders in for about 10-11 minutes. Flip about half way through.

2.Combine 1/2 cup Kodiak Cakes Power Cakes with 1/2 cup milk of your choice (I use 2%) (add an egg if you want extra protein).

3. Mix and pour into pre-heated non-stick waffle iron.

4. Pull out waffle and chicken. Place chicken on waffle. Put 2nd waffle on top.
>Waffle Sandwich.

5.Drizzle with 1/4 cup Aunt Jemima Original Lite Syrup.

6. Enjoy chicken and waffles for >500 calories.

I've tried that a few times, but the taste grosses me out. Also, the aspartame cancer thing concerns me (since I can't find definitive evidence pro- or anti- cancer, I try to avoid it).

I've gotten into hot tea, but there's not way to get a kettle at work, unfortunately.

Well .. aspartame doesn't cause cancer. It's the most studied chemical in the world currently, and every health organisation in the world (including the WHO & Cancer Council) have found nothing wrong with it.

So I wouldn't worry about that.

i don't know where you're from but in canada they sell 100x 100 mg caffeine pills in all pharmacies/drug marts. its like 7-10$ depending on sales and 100 mg is equivalent to a small cup of coffee (in canada sizes). also i would try to switch to tea. less calories and still gets you some caffeine.

Caffeine causes blood vessels in the head to contract, but with time your body compensates for that and after a few weeks of regular caffein consumtion you are back at the base level of blood vesel dilation. When you then stop taking caffeine your body kind of still compensates for it's effect wich causes the headache. The solution is to just endure the pain for one or two days, try to do it on a weekend if it interferes with work and after that it will stop and you will have no more withdrawal symptoms.
You dont have to give up caffeine, just lay it off in regular intervalls to get no headache, like two days a week.
Another option is of course to find another source of caffeine to feed your addiction which would proof the other posts right in saying that you are a degenerate piece of subhuman filth.

I drink diet soda, and tea. There are a lot of cold tea drinks out there. Iced tea, green tea. You can also make your own.

I'll make a pitcher, put it in the fridge, and drink it over the day.

The whole thing with cutting though, and honestly lifting in general, is that you kind of have to accept that you're going to spend a lot of time eating bland boring repetitive meals day after day. Most of us don't eat for comfort or flavor. We just eat what works and works for us. And its hard to find a lot of different foods that fit both of those criteria for most people.

If this thread survives long enough somebody will call me a faggit and drop some good recipes on you, hopefully. But the whole "eating for joy" mindset is probably best abandoned. It can only hold you back.

Thanks, someone actually being useful and nice. I've been a big food enjoyer for most of my life. I love to cook, food was a big bringer-together of my family. It has a nostalgia to it, the family recipes and whatnot.

My goal in this is to get to and maintain a healthier weight, while still being able to enjoy food and life in general.

I do enjoy the militant /fit/ fuckbois rage though, makes me chuckle. Keep on not indulging one of your five senses because "muh gainz".

The thing with that though is that we all do eat some shit we shouldn't every once in a while. We just don't do it all the time. And in some ways its better that way. You can enjoy things even more sometimes when they're less usual and you've been looking forward to them or you feel like you've earned them. And you make discipline gains every time you duck a pancake for some oatmeal or whatever.

Another thing is that you gotta consider your other senses. Like today I saw myself in one of those CCTV anti shoplifting jawnskis they have in stores. I looked pretty fucking good. It tasted a lot sweeter than candy.

I do wish you well. I hope you make it and I hope you get some good recipes in this thread. I gotta rest the gains now. Good luck.

Right, but everything is a balance and a moderation. My point is to try to make 225 lbs taste like 270. Moderation and creative cooking to make meals taste indulgent without being a killer on the diet. If you have the choice between flavorful and flavorless food, I can't imagine a circumstance under which you'd choice flavorless if they had roughly equivalent nutritional value.

I'm not in it for the appearance though. I'm in it to:

1) Prove to myself I can.
2) Improve my health.
3) Have an excuse to cook more (since I enjoy cooking).
4) Experiment with foods to expand healthy options for other people like me who may want to eat healthier, but get turned off by the chicken and rice 7 days a week diet plan some of the more militant folks bring about.

You can eat whatever you want at Thanksgiving, at Christmas, every couple of weeks go to a fancy restaurant and have some creme brulee, it's not the end of the world. Just don't do it every day. Hell when you're bulking as long as youre getting a lot of protein, go crazy

Good food for a cut:
1. Chop cabbage, sauté in a bit of olive oil, add salt, pepper, and balsamic vinigar to taste. Supprisingly tasty and low cal.

2. Google a sugarless crepe batter recipie and make crepes. You can stuff them with whatever; chicken, salsa, tomato, lettuce and gauc is a good combo. They're better then most store bought tortillas and are functionally the same.

3. Learn how to make stews and soups, typically low cal and there's a lot of variety

4. Seafood like fish, squid/octopus, or shrimp are all quick and easy to make, low cal and high protein.

5. Butternut squash is a great tasting low cal item you can use to fill out your meals. It's sweet and soft and there's tons to do with it. I'm fond of doing them mashed with coconut curry (use light coconut milk) on top as a healthy substitute for mashed potatoes and gravy.

6. Make open faced sandwiched (with just on slice of bread) and put lettuce on top so you can eat it normally. It'll cut your carbs and save calories for pretty much the same thing.

The big thing is to watch your portion sizes. You can eat pretty much anything as long as you do it in small doses. As for the pop, just find a tea you like and drink that instead. There's not a lot you can substitute for pop that will leave you as satisfied and energized so it's best just to ween yourself off.

There's not substitute for persistence and discipline though, which will both be required to get in shape. Be consistent and persistent.

So ilI know this is 4 hours late, but i felt the need to reply. I used to be a little heavier than you; 283 at 5'11" (hyper manlet).

How much do you really care about getting in shape if you are making concessions before you even lose 10 pounds. Food does and should taste good, but you really need to focus on food being a thing you need to do, not something you 'treat yourself' with 3-5 times a day. If you are eating one already watered down meal that is 500-600 calories, how well do you thi k you are doing? How much of that fried meat and carbs really helping? And that's just one meal?

The fact you instantly atart virtue signaling with 'nazi' terms shows you aren't interested in anything but feeling good about yourself. I usually tell people as a joke to go to reddit, but you might find more of the hugbox you were looking for there.

For reference, i got down to 158, started lifting got to 180 and on a cut again. And i never feel i am miserable, my favorite thing used to be pizza. I havent had pizza in a year and a half and to be honest when i think of a cheat meal it doesnt even pop into my head.
