Really focused on gaining weight and increasing my bench this year. neglected squat and deadlift big time. My goal is to get 140kg squat and 180kg deadlift for 5RM before end of next year.

Should my stats have been higher at this point? I started off with no athletic background at all, and I kind of have a nagging feeling that my lifts should be higher by now, especially bench.

>Quite a few people
No they definitely dont. Its rare as fuck and only happens in 2 cases.
1) You are squatting very high thus allowing you do squat more. Quit cheating depth.
2) You are in the top 1% of lifters. Top level PLers do squat more than DL. So unless you are Squatting 900lbs you are lying about your depth.
>>39451945
Bro im sorry but hes right. If you actually been lifting for 15 fucking years you should serious consider suicide. I mean even if you didnt squat and DL, your bench and ohp numbers are pathetic.

My numbers would likely be quite a bit higher but I've been lifting on a caloric deficit for almost 6 months out of those 8 months. Former fat ass piece of shit, more concerned with being not fat than lifting heavy.
>>
>>39452066

Squatting more than you pull has basically nothing to do with whether you're elite or not (the reason you see it so much in powerlifting is that a huge amount of it is either in wraps or full equipment, which add a ton to your squat and fuck all to your deadlift. And it scales with how strong you are) and a huge amount to do with proportions and how someone is built.

How many serious lifters have you trained with?

Yes it completely does. It gets to a point where your grip cant keep up with your overall strength.
Im not talking about suited lifting you faggot.
You dont know what youre talking about so you can keep defending someone with a 165lb squat if you want to but im done. Keep living in fantasy land.
>>

I'd also add in equipped federations will have many people squatting more than their pull

Most raw powerlifting still uses wraps. Those are worth a good hundred pounds or more if you're strong enough. You still see the squat exceeding the deadlift without that, although it is rarer.

It's nothing to do with grip in most cases (and I've seen plenty of them where training pulls with straps are zero pounds higher than their mixed or hook pulls in competition). It's a proportions and muscular strength thing. If you're built well for squatting you'll often have a better squat than pull due to the mechanical advantage on the squat given by having a short limbs/long torso build which comes at the cost of giving you a really shitty deadlift start position.

None of this comes into play when someone is squatting 160lbs and DL 110lbs like the original anon we replied to. When you first start lifting your DL should be higher end of story.

Anon from >>39451674

I only had a 110 DL since quite frankly, that's the most I did recently without really pushing, since I was starting to do it, and didn't want to just jump into it and fuck up my back/legs/form/etc.

I was able to confidently and easily to 110 again tonight actually, so I am going to aim to at least meet my squat lift next time around.

I know I can do more, and I'm fairly sure I can meet and or exceed my squat lift. Just was reporting the highest I did recently. I just never get a chance to do deadlifts until recently since all the other times the places I could do them were taken up and I wanted to get the rest of my workout done instead of waiting for a station.

Played high level hockey my whole life, even played a bit of semi-pro. Never had any bad injuries until last year, and now it seems like as soon as one is healed I get another. I tried squatting light last week, but even doing just the bar caused discomfort in my ankle. feels bad my friends

All these 'this will be you in 2 years if you start lifting now' posts are garbage and don't apply to very many people. My two majors at university are exercise science and human nutrition and I've been doing everything by the book. Started out as a skelly who could barely bench the bar but still, if your genetics are crap you'll for real just not get very strong.
Least I have a swimmer's body and girls give me compliments any time I have my shirt off ;)
