A tiny backstory. Im 37 years old, smoking since I was 12. I am 5'10 and 380Lbs. Until 6 months ago I was also a bottle a day drinker for about 15 years. Some things in my life have happened and its time to do something before I am dead

I finally got a gym membership (wont say where, it was only 9.99 a month so I cant complain) I got on the treadmill and started walking. Here is my question though. At 3.5mph, the treadmill kept beeping at my telling me my heart rate was too high. At one point I looked down and my heart rate was 156. That isnt normal right? However just sitting and watching TV my heart rate is always right around 100-105, so the treadmill telling me to stay below 115 is kind of unrealistic as well.

What do you guys think?
>>
Did you quit smoking?
>>
No one on here is qualified enough to give you an answer.

I'm 5'7 and 165lbs shredded, lifting 5 years, university educated. I still wouldn't feel comfortable giving you advice.

Best you go to a doctor that specifically has knowledge about exercising for morbidly obese people.

Not yet. Over the last 2 weeks I have greatly cut down though. I was at 2 packs a day. Today I only smoked 16 cigs so far. I havent had a drink in 6 months, and my liver has mostly recovered though.

I guess baby steps

Let me put it to you this way. My resting heart rate is 51bpm you are far too over weight to be pushing yourself to your maximum heart rate.

>I havent had a drink in 6 months

Alright. Good man. That one anon is right about the doctor and all, but I'm three inches taller than him and weigh the same so let me just do a quick experiment for you breh.

Treadmills are dogshit at everything they say. Like cals burned or whatever. I don't trust 'em to do anything but spin their little faggot belts and simulate walking. But mine says I have a resting heartbeat of 86 rn.

I'ma pop it on 3.5 mph at a 4% incline and see what it tells me in like five minutes. Hold tight.

I understand whatever advice I do get to take with a grain of salt. However the repeated specialist visits for my liver and pancreas has kind of depleted funds a bit. I asked the specialist about exercise twice, once he told me he didnt recommend it until I lost around 100 pounds by dieting. The second time he said the only thing I could do would be to walk... Which is when I got the gym membership yesterday.

>>39432112
From what I read my max heart rate should be 183 so I was still under it thankfully (I didnt actually look up max heart rate until after I went to the gym) I just did my heart rate right now. Ive been sitting and typing at the computer for a little over an hour, and my heart rate is 104 right now. My problem is, getting up to go piss probably raises it to 110ish. Walking from my car into the gym, changing shoes, and walking to the treadmill at normal fat ass pace, easily puts me into the "fat burning range" on the treadmill. :(
>>
you are fucking delusional, but hey good luck.
>>
>>39432187

Not sure if you meant me, but I have no illusions of being /fit/. This isnt to look good or play a sport...this is about me not being dead in 3 years. A year ago I would have told you I dont care, im having fun. Now, I really dont want to die. That shit is terrifying to think about
>>
>>39432207
fucking lush. every organ in your body is damaged, and will take a decade to recover. you smoke, your advanced age, overweight... good lord. i'm talking about illusions of ever getting a normal functioning body again.

i don't even know what to tell you m8.
>>
>>39432144
It said 112. I don't buy it. I'm in pretty goddamn good shape, i don't have a heart condition or any health problems at all, and that wasn't enough to make me break a sweat or anything. Never listen to a treadmill.

Go buy a blood pressure jawnski. A class act job. I know you can get them cheap because my sister has one for no reason. I'll ask to borrow it next time I see her and I guarantee this pile is wrong.

But don't take huge risks with your life or listen to me, go to a doctor. Good job on quitting the booze. That shit is bad news. Drop the smokes and keep at it. You're a relatively young guy. Don't throw your life away.
>>
>>39432250
eh

he could bring it from 20% function, to 80%, if he spent the next couple of years grinding and not fucking up
>>
>>39432057
don't listen to these faggots, they;re just angry because they self conscious about their height and small penises.

good for you for wanting to get healthy. Keep at it for a few months and let it form into a habit. don't give up.
>>
Thank you everyone. I appreciate it. I need to get some sleep. I think I am going to go to the gym before work in the morning instead of after. Going to try avoiding the milfs on the ellipticals if at all possible
>>
>>39432335
Good luck buddy. Hitting a bottom could be the best or worst thing that ever happened to you. It's up to you. Read the sticky because you need to know about nutrition too if you dont already.
>>
>>39432057
cut out soda, fried foods and sugar altogether - you will lose weight and get healthy
>>
>>39432057

Considering your weight and fitness level, that heart rate actually sounds about right, but I would ignore it for now. What you should aim for, right now, is working hard enough to sweat, and doing it for half an hour with no breaks. Keep the speed under 5, maybe even 4mph; 3.5mph is a decent walking pace and slow enough to not hammer your joints. Adjust the incline to change difficulty.

>9.99 a month

This sounds like planet fitness. That place gets a lot of flack around here, but if it's cheap and convenient and let's you work out at your current level, it's perfect.

>>39432179

That specialist has a point about dieting. Literally all you need to do is keep track of your calories and run a deficit, and you'll lose weight much faster than exercising your ass off.

>>39432090

This anon is also right. I'm just a DYEL on an Kuwaiti rocking chair carving forum, so don't but everything I say.

Remember that making these changes and keeping them up is going to be one of the best improvements in your entire life. You'll make us proud, anon. Also, read the sticky.
