Will squatting help me jump higher? How can i make my jump reach for the stars /fit/
>>
Your knees and the ground have to be perpendicular to each other OP
>>
>>39416351
If you are over 20, you can't make your jumps that much better. Only exception is that you are like really fat and lose weight.
>>
>>39416372
>tfw i just turned 21 5 months ago.

So much for my volleyball dream desu
>>
>>39416372

That's a very random statement to make.
>>
>>39416372
lmao
>>39416351
squatting in itself barely, but you need at least lmao2plaet (1,5×bw minimum) to properly start training for it
power cleans and other explosive oly movements are very good
else lots of box jumps and correctly done shock plyometrics (1,5xbw squat before serious jump training, especially shock plyo, else you won't be able to absorb shocks properly and your knees will get fucked)
>>
>>39416351
It's generally considered that you can't train your ability to display strength quickly.

>>
>>39416807
It's basically impossible to improve past a certain point but barely anyone really trains for explosiveness properly. Adding an inch or two to your vertical is entirely possible and not even that hard, and can be a literal gamechanger.
>>
>>39416820
I have a 22 inch vertical, but I will never have a 28 inch vertical.

Who is going to be better at sports? It's almost not worth the effort unless you're already really explosive.
>>
>>39416820
>>39416831

The guys in the NFL have 30-40+ inch verticals.

You won't take an average person and turn them into an superstar football player.
>>
>>39416831
>10% increase isn't shit
if you practice any kind of sport where explosiveness is mandatory (e.g. fucking all of them but especially volleyball and basketball), two inches of vertical are an insane gain, ESPECIALLY if your vertical is shit as is. Yeah you'll never be pulling a 30 but it's usually the difference between being halfway decent and rather good.
>>39416853
see above. I'll never have the endurance of a pro soccer player, does this mean I should stop running to do better in my pub league?
>>
how do you train for explosiveness specifically?

oly lifts?
>>
>>39416877
Don't have to.

For your lower body, power cleans are simple and good.

Pendlay rows for your upper body maybe?
>>
>>39416869
OP wants to make his jump reach the starts. It wont.
>>
>>39416877
base strength
power
doing the explosive movement itself

so basically for jumping you'd do at least squats for strength, power cleans for power and various jumps for muscle memory and technique
then you got all kinds of supplementary and/or specialist training like fast jumping rope or shock plyometrics.
jump rope in general is fantastic for another thing, it makes you light on your feet so you react faster and have time to actually set yourself up properly
>>
>>39416351
Kinda, but being good at C&J and Snatch will help your vertical jump more.
>>
>>39416351
Aren't your feet supposed to be parallel? Have I done goofed?
>>
>>39416980
> Aren't your feet supposed to be parallel?
No, they're supposed to be about 30 degrees from parallel as in the pic.
>>
>>39416993
So it's not even a question of preferance? That's the one, legit correct way of squatting?
>>
>>39416997
You need somewhere for your belly to go if you want to squat low.

I don't know your morphology, but your hip flexors probably wont be tight and you won't get any kind of stretch reflex out of them.
>>
>>39416997
No. but it is a reasonable guide.

Parallel is obviously wrong, but 30degrees might be a bit much.

The important thing is knee tracking. There're a number of factors contributing to it, but basically your can't squat knees straight forward, which means you can't squat feet straight forward...

Me
>>39417076
This guy's response is much clearer.
>>
>>39417076
I guess I'll take a good hard look at my stance, then.
>>
there are specific programs to enhance and increase your vertical, most of them are really challenging and take a lot of effort, they're bodyweight, but unless you're an athlete it is pretty much impossible to complete one, I remember doing a lot of sports, like basketball football, athletics in my highschool years, so I tried Air Alert and obvoiusly I couldn't finish it, made it just to week 8 or something
>>
>>39416351
Is it ok to have your knees go so far over like that?
Mine do that and it isn't like my knees are dying, but it's weird.
>>
>>39416351
you can't, at least not by much and especially not with a slow controlled movement such as the squat
>>
Just jump lmao

thats literally all you need to do

If you want to punch harder, get a punching bag
if you want to jump higher, do some box jumps
>>
I can't imagine why you'd ever need to jump, unless you're a manlet
>>
>>39417746
supervolcano erupts, bathes america in rivers of lava

he who jumps the farthest lives to breed
>>
>>39416351
Op don't listen to these fat cunts.

Of course you can train yourself to jump higher.

That being said, like with anything athletic, genetics play thier part. If you have a long achilles tendon you will be better at jumping.

Get your squat and to a lesser extent your deadlift up. You are looking at strength to BW ratio here.

Olympic lifts are good, however they are technically more complex then other lifts. Consider high pulls and speed box squats (as per Westside).

Then there is plyometric training; vertical, box and broad jumps, as well as varients of those, as well as stuff like depth drops etc

Kelly Baggett's Vertical Jump Bible is a must-read and can be downloaded easily.

Tldr: squat more, jump more, be ripped
>>
>>39417746
Standing vertical jump is THE best illustration of lower body power
>>
>>39416351
I think jumping involves the fast twist muscles more, and squatting involves the slow twist muscles. Box jumps or something would probably be better, be careful with your knees though. Squatting could probably be a nice thing to do on the side though, to build basic strength but don't quote me on this
>>
>>39417861
Wtf squatting is not slow twitch... yes a heavy squat can be slow... because it is heavy.

You need squats to build strength, then jumps etc to better make use of that strength (power)
>>
>>39416387
You know it's bullshit right
>>
>>39416351
The more weight I squatted, the closer I was to dunking. Then (while I weighed 215lbs at 5'9) I was first able to do it.
