You see a lot of these people in treatment and support groups alongside anorexics and bulimics. It's called BED (Binge Eating Disorder)

The compulsively stuff themselves with food until they make themselves sick. They don't actually receive pleasure from it, and often don't remember doing it. It tends to happen in a dissociative state. The person often drives themselves into debt or loses their job because they can't control their compulsive behaviors.

The other weird thing is that it doesn't happen when the person is hungry. They may eat normal portions when they are hungry, or even skip regular meals. Some other kind of stress will trigger the compulsive behavior, and throw the brain into binge-eating mode.


Nobody really understands the cause, but it is more common in people who have recovered from anorexia or bulimia. It's like a switch gets turned on in their brain, telling them to eat that can't be turned off.

Many bulimics are binge-eaters who simply purge their calories. When they stop purging, the bingeing often gets worse.

For anorexics, the hunger signals get all fucked up. This happened to me. When I was starving, I stopped feeling hunger for months. Then when I was in recovery, eating normally, it came back. I felt hungry ALL THE TIME. Even when I ate 3000 calories a day, I would wake up several times a night with hunger pangs. After I reached a normal weight, the hunger remained for about 4 months.

A lot of recovering anorexics start bingeing during that recovery period. I've heard stories from some of them about BED symptoms starting after the hunger went away.

Personally, after dealing with this shit for 30 years, I suspect that all of the eating disorders are really just different manifestations of the same disease. It doesn't matter if you have a BMI of 14 or if you are morbidly obese - you respond to stress in similar ways and your brain has ceased to recognize food for what it is.

I met my fist tumblr-kid the other day, on a night out with friends, my friends told me about him, now, unless you're 14 or a full-time university student, you don't meet many IRL here in the UK, and after all I've heard about them I was fascinated to meet one.

He got furious when he found out my friends flat mate dumped his girlfriend because she threatened to kill herself after becoming depressed, my friend matched with a Latino nurse on Tinder prompting a chorus of BUILD WALL from the rest of us when he showed us, he was rambling about some bullshit and I interrupted him to ask my friend when we were leaving for the bar and he sat back in silence for a solid 10 minutes, you could tell it really got to him despite being accidental, that's a sure sign of autism right there, which he confirmed later on in the night.

I used to have IBS myself when I was a fat fuck. I'd shit like once a week and it was always torturous. When I finally started focusing on my health, that was one of the things I made an effort to change. Drinking more water, eating more fiber, etc. One of the things that helped me maintain a normal bowel movement schedule was magnesium citrate supplements. You might want to try that. In addition to getting you some magnesium intake, it absorbs water to give you looser bowel movements. The additional bulk also prompts your guts to move things along.

If that doesn't work then I would examine food sensitivities if you haven't yet.

It's 1 thing to disapprove of obesity. I'm right there with you there. Obesity is a terrible thing and it is so terrible that it is effecting millions of people around the world. It's terrible that it's so incredibly hard to bring it up in a socially appropriate way with somebody you know who is suffering from it. It's so terrible that we each know somebody in our lives who will probably have a dramatic sad medical event in their lives that we'll have to witness because their obesity caused it.

But actually hating the person who is fat? That's going too far. Having a hateful attitude towards fat people is one of the reasons some fat people are reluctant to lose weight because they're feeling hated and judged for being fat and they don't want to submit to the opinions of ppl they feel are hating them. If somebody was treating you like shit and they told you to do something, would you do it no matter how helpful it was? Probably not. You'd probably tell them to fuck off.

So by hating fat people you're encouraging them to not listen to you and want to stay fat. Good job. You're just making the problem worse. And you're coming off as a huge inconsiderate douche in the process.

But I know what the real issue is. This fat anger is just an immature way of expressing how we really feel about this. What we all want, is for everybody to be healthy and in shape and for there to be no drama over this at all right? We want world peace, right?
