Which exercises best target the lower abdomen and then the mid. I've caused serious damage to my pelvis over the years and I'm trying to restore strength to my core.

heavy overhead presses
weighted dips
weighted chinups
all of these will put a lot of tenion on the abs, weighted dips and chinups particularly will work the lower abs well as they'll be braced against the belt.
