So I started liftin from zero about a month ago and tried squatting (zercher) for the first time. I could barely do 60lbs for 8 reps. The hell is wrong with me? I was always kind of weak but that weight is ridiculously low. I'm at ~130lbs bodyweight.

I know a powerlifter trainer, his squat is 290 kg, and with his trainees he uses this progression: split squat -> zercher squats -> front squats -> back squats. Fuck off, Rippetoe's cock sucker.

What's the point of doing zercher over front squats? I can see it might work your arms and shoulders, but why would you want to incorporate that into a fucking squat at the cost of bottlenecking the rest of the movement?

You don't need that much wrist mobility for the front rack position, if your wrists hurt it's just as likely that it's your T spine that's tight. I never used the bar pad since I don't have it in my home gym, although I imagine it might make the bar less stable
