I don't know if he is aware of it, but he is basically maintaining for the sake of an image.

It's why he doesn't train legs or deadlifts, because his body being within peak performance (strong legs, hips, and erectors) would not coincide well with society's image of "optimal" beauty/health.

What's wrong with that?

I've been lifting for 5 years in total now. Around a year ago I came to the conclusion that all those years of deadlifting had given me stupidly over the top looking legs that made me look far less aesthetic. So after 4 straight years of squatting and deadlifting I stopped. Now my upper body actually looks better, my lower body looks normal instead of 2 tree trunks and I'm far more happier and confident because of it.
