who needs a fucking mask to go running in 20degree weather? Is the wind chill that bad?

Just go to a local gun/hunting/sporting goods store and get an insulated hood/balaclava or if you want to be a hipster get one of those beard head hat/mask things

A mask like the one in your pic, OP, would be bad news to run in. After a few minutes the fleece around your nose/mouth will be soaked through, and if it's actually 20F it'll constantly freeze and melt, and just generally be gross as fuck.

Get an underarmor(TM) baclava, it's meant for things where you breathe hard. I use it on my bike commutes when it gets real cold. I just wear a neck warmer because it's still above freezing here in Toronto

You could try some white face paint to block out the cold, a bright red nose warmer and a tall hat with a wig to keep your head and ears warm. Heard its getting pretty popular these days. Make sure to wear bright clothing (safety first).

Not OP, but where I live, walking out the door when it's windy will suck the air out of your lungs and the blood from your face.
A balaclava or some such is basically a requirement if you want to be active outside without your lungs feeling like you huffed liquid nitrogen.

I made the mistake of walking to the store while the ends of my hair was still wet (had a butt length ponytail at the time because injun) and I had to cut about 6 inches off because the hair straight up broke.

Rub a VERY SMALL amount of Vaseline on your face. Doesn't look crazy, but perfect wind and cold protection without covering nose and mouth.
