Op this is how I lost my cat at a young age too. It was very early morning and the cat was split in half near the bus stop.

If its any consolation to you OP, it died instantly. He was out exploring and feeling like the wild predator he is, then next thing he knows boom, nothingness. No suffering from arthitis or blindness for the last few years of his life. Just exploring like he wanted and getting deleted cleanly just like that.

It may be hard for you OP, as an external observer to look at the aftermath, but as far as kitty is concerned he felt no pain, only Wild
