I tried squatting for the first time today after studying Rippetoe's videos and I have terrible flexibility in my shoulders. I can't get my elbows up, so by the 3rd light at I had pain in my right elbow.
Can I still make it without barbell squats?

I'll give a wider grip a shot. I lined up my pinkies with the grip marking on the bar. Then tried putting the center of my palm over the marking. I feel like the longer your arms, the harder low bar squat form must be to achieve.

To be fair to anon, on the SS forums people recommend high bar squats for those experiencing elbow pain. I'd rather do whatever keeps me in the gym, than take bad advice from an anon to try and impress him only to get injured.

jokes aside though elbow pain could be fixed through adjusting form. high bar isn't a good substitute but if you're not going to be squatting at all due to your pain then sure high bar is better than not doing it.
