When did you realise the morning gym meme was real?

>Used to go gym after work
>Always used to dread it
>Had to leave work early otherwise gym too busy
>Got held up in work so occasionally missed prime gym opportunities
>Stopped going eventually
>Still feel anxious, slightly down and suffer from smal panic attacks. I worry about stupid things, have regrets and can't concentrate in work.

Last night I was reading about the morning gym meme.

>Got up at half six
>Good breakfast and headed into town
>In gym by eight
>Finished and showered by 8.50
>In work by nine

Feels good man. I feel fresh, alert, and good. I don't feel angry, or that anxious. I've been quite productive in work also.

There are so many positives. The gym is nice and quiet, has a nice comfy feel to it. I have a shower after the gym and feel fresh. The gym is done for the day so I an concentrate on work.

The more I think.about it, the more it makes sense.

Why do you still go after work like a cuck?
>>
I feel that little bit more tired after going to the gym in the morning, and therefore my work performance begins to suffer in the last couple hours.

Whereas if I go after work I can put my 100% into it everytime because I know I'm going straight to bed afterwards

Yea I lift.

I don't fuck about lad. Not bringing your phone into the gym is key.

Neither do I. Who the fuck uses his phone when he wants to lift in a serious way? Only 15 yo do this
>>
>>39135479
Ahh. Welcome to the occult brother. There is nothing better than getting your primal instinct firing first thing in the morning.

Personally I wake at 4am because I just don't have time to be distracted by other people. Start my first set by 5am. Listen to some Pantera and Death grips... by the time I arrive at classes the riffs and verses are still running through my mind full volume and I have to resist knocking people down like bowlin pins.
>>
>>39135935
>>39135927
I use mine to track sets and listen to music. And it's in my pocket, I'm usually wringing my hands on a towel because my shitty gym doesn't allow chalk.
>>
>>39135946
>>39135935
I get in and get my shit done.

I see people standing around texting people or scrolling through their music to see what to listen to next. Theres a couple of sofas and there always seems to be this one guy In a wife beater using his phone.

These are all grown adults.

I'm not that pro. I'm used to go to the gym three times a week and I started I see change. This of course included an improved diet of basically eating more, and more protein, and protein shake every day and after gym.

The gym part I didn't like. But it was comfy this morning and it feels nice that I can just go home after work.

Morning is the shit, so much quieter.. equipment free for whenever I want to use it, quieter music.. much better.

going to the gym and lifting can be a form of meditation as long as you don't distract yourself.

if you are using you phone at the gym, you are probably distracting yourself. I assume people using their phones at the gym fall into the group of /fit/izens which complain that they didn't reach 1/2/3/4 in a year because they slack-off, have bad training habits, and constantly distract themselves.
>>
>>39136305

I've been doing morning gym for a year now, and feel better than I ever did going after work. There's a core group that is there in the morning and we all know each other, we've somehow nonverbally worked out a system of using equipment so no one has to work in.

Shits great, yo

Morning gym is the best because it's a great way to get shit done as you're waking up and building energy, as opposed to losing it during the evening. Plus, it feels nice to get it out of the way and feel charged for the day.

You also get to walk around a little pumped the rest of the day.
>>
Don't you feel tired for the whole day if you workout in the morning?
>>
>>39135938

I am self employed and set my own hours, so I always end up fucking up my schedule and sleeping at 4AM. Then I wake up at like noon, work until 7PM, then gym around 10PM. I used to gym at 5AM (and go to bed at 9AM), but the morning crowd at my gym sucks. It's actually better at night.

I usually try to go between 10-2, or 8 and beyond. Those are the prime times in my gym on the weekdays, where you dont have to wait for a squat rack. My rule of thumb, though, is any time is good as long as I don't eat 4 hours beforehand, 6 if it's leg day. Not tryna shit my pants

I am a fan of both. For my four years in prison, 6:30am was my workout time and it was the absolute best way to start the day. I'd lift and do cardio 5 days a week. Been home since '09 and switched to the after work workout. It used to suck because I was a member of 24hr fitness and fuck that place, from 5-9pm it is the absolute biggest shit show ever. Now, I'm the GM of an extremely upscale boutique gym and also do personal training so I get off at five and literally just go right into working out. Makes things very convenient, plus I'm usually done steaming and showering just as rush hour ends. Feels good man.
>>
>>39135479
I started going in the mornings too, I love it so far. Just bring food to make sure I get energy back right away. Also working out in the evenings I'd always skip Fridays because someone would make plans with me.

>>
>>39135935
Nice assumption. I use my phone in the gym and I'm a 29 year old dad. I use it to track my routine, time my rest periods, and kill time while resting. It's more efficient than using a notebook and stop watch.

I wake up at 4 AM, get to the gym by 4:30, get home by 6:15-6:30, shower, make breakfast for the family, and start the day by 8. I love working out while the sun rises. No better start to the day.
>>
>>39135927
nigga it doesn't matter if I bring my phone, if you lift even remotely heavy weight you'll need to rest for a good while between sets. it takes me well over 50 minutes just to squat and bench

It does totally suck. I'm 9-5m and the way I do it is go to sleep by 6PM. I usually wake up anywhere from midnight-2AM, putz around the house, go to the gym, read, do chores, cook, shop (I've got a 24 hour grocery store near by).

I much preferred the 1500-2300 schedule I worked during college, but 9-5's pay better desu.

I work as a discretionary trader. European markets open at 07:00 and the US equities close at 21:00 so that's why I'm in so long. The company don't care how long you work once you are making money. I find I am quite profitable at those times so I am happy to be in (we get paid based on a percentage of what we make).

Also, although it is a very long day, there is a a fair bit of time when it is slow — for example at 11:00 when I go to the gym. Also a fair amount of time spent shitposting or playing g the Xbox in the lounge.

The majority of the prop trading firms will take someone from any background, but what they are looking for is someone who 1) aims to achieve, 2) is able to be highly self-critical, 3) who is not afraid to take, but manage, risks under pressure and 4) someone who has good quantitative skills.

So I had a strong academic background in theoretical physics which ticked off number 1 and 4 and got me an interview.

In my interview they were trying to find out about the other two things so when they asked what I did outside of academic life I said I like to go to the gym and lift. I told them that I would always record and document my progress, watch videos on form and always try to improve... they loved that because it ticked number 2.

Finally they wanted to see how I dealt with risk and pressure so they would ask me about poker hands, which hand is better etc. When I was slow to respond they start shouting come on, hurry up, we want an answer. They also asked me to multiply large numbers together in my head and again pit you under pressure while they ask. All they want to see is that you can do that sort of thing while under pressure.

Getting the interview is all about showing some of the above points in your CV. Also, don't be afraid to beg for an interview... they love when people want something and don't give up. The interviews are super, super tough but if you know what they are looking for and why they are doing what they do it all makes sense and makes it easier.

There are people from every background on our trading floor but the most common by far are former online poker players because people like that have demonstrated the above skills already.
