When did you realize this was far better than the barbell bench press?
Even mark rippetoe admits it's better for anyone who isn't a powerlifter.
>>39125541
I've been doing those lately they are pretty good but not as satisfying. No need to be a fag about it op.
I do both
>>39125541
Haven't done this yet, any tips?
Whats dumbell bench with 35kg dumbells equivilent to for barbell? Does anyone that does both know?
>>39125619
Would it be silly to assume it's roughly 2xDB weight?
>>39125580
>no need to be a fag about it
I thought that's the point of this board
>>39125616
Pick up the weights.
>>39125619
not transferable really, learning and mastering the form for one makes you efficeint and stronger at that movement, not at bench press, if you want to know your bench then bench.
>>39125642
Nah it's not just 2x. ROM is greater as well as isolates the chest more. It's probably around 1.5pl8 bench.
>>39125619
You could probably do 1plate
>>39125667
>35kg
That's like 75lbs.
He probably benches 190+ then.
>>39125688
>DB bench presses over 1pl8
>You could do one plate
Lol
Yeah but it is so much harder to progress on db press than barbell. A good set up would be starting off with barbell bench and then bang out volume sets of db press to get strength (for progression) and size with your volume sets on DB. Ignoring one is pointless
>>39125708
What is the benefit of barbell bench? It seems to just increase injury rate.
You can progress fine if you attach magnets to it
Barbell for 1-5 reps
DB for 8-12 reps
>>39125702
>he thinks two different exercises are the same
>>39125842
DB will have lighter weight unless your a freak
>>39125728
shit i meant
It is easier to progress on barbell bench which means strength gains, which allows for progression. Otherwise you're gonna be stuck db benching like 75lbs for years
Dude the way I look at it is that you're gonna be working out for years....might as well as take the 2-3 sessions to learn how to bench properly so you dont hurt yourself.
>>39125728
>It seems to just increase injury rate.
Literally kill yourself retard.
Barbell bench is better if you want strong arms.
>>39125842
Yes... everyone significantly barbell benches more than db
>>39125894
Good argument dude, really got me there
>>39125541
Not all gyms provide serious weight.
Last time I got the 140 lbs (in each hand) for 2.
It could be a shoulder wrecker if you are not careful.
>you gonna do cable flies the rest of your life ?
>>39125896
Unless they've only trained dumbells
>>39125991
No, the strength will carry over
The movements are very similar and if anything dbs will give you far greater strength and stability
>>39126017
Stability, yes, strength, no.
>>39126116
Strength yes
Why don't you get you're training the same muscles except through a greater range of motion?
>>39126157
How is it a greater range of motion?
>>39126191
You can lower the weigh lower and have a better stretch in your chest
Should I be supinating my wrist at the top of the motion? Was shown that a long time ago and heard it was better for pecs but hardly ever see it done that way.
>>39125541
When I was 16 and too pussy for bb bench.
>>39125541
>When did you realize this was far better than the barbell bench press?
this morning, actually
>>39125616
>protip: turn your palms inward at the top
>>39126411
>Being pussy
No it's more about it being a more effective exercise
For best chest do both. If you're doing it correctly range of motion shouldn't vary too greatly between barbell and dumbbell. By only picking one you're setting yourself back on gains.
>>39125655
it does help when it comes to stabilizing muscles.
>>39126541
What do you gain from barbell bench
>>39125541
My friend is pretty into weightlifting, I'm getting more and more so but he's stronger than me in pretty much every lift.
EXCEPT bench press. When I went to the gym with him he grabbed dumbbells and I'm like what are you doing. So he did dumbbell, I did a decently high bench press. For his next set he tried the bench and couldn't get as many reps as I could with the same weight.
This guy does dumbbell bench press consistently, I mostly fucked around with barbell bench press a few months before and still outlifted him. So if you're going for strength, go barbell.
>>39125541
My right wrist is retarded, it bends inwards rather than straight and it hurts to lift free weights
>>39125541
>Even mark rippetoe admits it's better for anyone who isn't a powerlifter.
Could you please explain that further? I'm stuck with shit Internet for some time and can't research on my own.
What do I need pecs for, if I don't ever want to bench press?
Would someone look strange of he could ohp 225 but wouldn't ever bench, db or bb?
>>39126725
You'll never get 2pl8 ohp with that pussy attitude
>>39125541
Been doing Incline DB press for a while and they seem to be helping quite a bit my bench
Started when I deloaded my bench 10% to 67.5 kg, went 70-70-71-72.5-73.5-75-76-77.5 with the last one today.
I swear if next time I do 78.5 and not fail I'll be on cloud nine, bench was always such a pain for me since I started and now I progressed 2 fucking workouts in a row doing 5r pr's each time
(Did 70 twice because the micropl8s had not arrived yet)
>>39126677
Wow youre stupid. The reason he couldnt do as much bb as u is because he does dumbell "consistantly". Just like if you went to dumbell you couldnt do as much as him since you do bb.
>>39126741
You surely convinced me.
>>39126765
How much of an incline u on?
>>39126870
Like, four levels incline, my good man
>>39125842
do you even lift?
>>39125842
You're retarded
It's like saying someone who dumbbell shoulder presses 75lb dumbbells can't OHP 135+ easily with a bar
>>39126889
haha. four levels. you are like a little baby.
watch this
>>39126870
It's pretty low, less than 30% maybe even <20%, heard from different sources that it's better to isolate the upper chest and not have the delts come into play
>>39126889
why do you do this?
>>39127497
Why?
>succ
I am honestly very unsure what to do when I'm working out my chest:
Right now, I've settled on DB bench and then chest flys.
Or should I go BB bench and chest flys?
Does it really matter at all? I specifically want to keep the flys because I hear they are actually better at isolating the chest than benching.
Thoughts? I just don't want to be in a situation of using redundant exercises.
>>39125541
do both you coward
>>39127392
kekekek
I rotate my arms on the way down (palms face each other)
is that stupid?
>>39127671
Keep doing DB bench/flies but change the bench inclination and do a few sets flat and the rest at about 40 degrees.
>>39127980
i see it a lot, and i've tried it, and the only reason i don't do it is because it's easier than not doing that, mostly because it feels like the chest is stretching less when my palms face each other while down
>>39128038
coolio, thanks
>>39127980
Do what feels like its hitting the chest better
Seriously if you ask any of the top bodybuilders about how they choose their exercises they all say something the lines of 'listen to your body'
