these plus romanian deadlifts make my lower traps feel fucking incredible when I squeeze my shoulder blades together for like 2 days afterwards.

Fixing your forms invariably leads to lowering the weight so yes

Yes, lower the weight based on what your weak side can do. This goes for anything really, it will prevent you from having a bad side to side imbalance. It will also might prevent you from injuring yourself by not having one side overcompensate.

When you do them right you can feel the contraction between your shoulder blades. Imo 90% of people use too much weight and can't bring the bar to their chest. If you want to feel that contraction you have to hit the chest at the top and stretch at the bottom.

To the chest, for me lower pecs. I keep my back almost parallel to the ground. Ass out, knees bent. Experiment with grip width and elbow angle and see what feels best for you.

You're allowed to cheat a bit, they're still productive if they're not "perfect" and cheating just means you're hitting your traps more.

Take a somewhat wider grip than you currently do, like borderline snatch-grip. You'll feel the whole scapular retraction thing a hell of a lot more.
