The kind of person OP is talking about is a problem. He's fucking up the equipment by putting additional weight on it like that, and he's likely wasting other people's time by using like 20 plates and sitting there for 10 minutes between sets on the leg press machine. That type of behavior should be shamed out of existence as much as possible. Threads like this help accomplish that.

OP is not being the "gym census guy," which doesn't make sense even in a deliberately absurd context. He's just being a responsible member of a subset of society--the gym. We need people like this.

OP here. You can see the 45 on the opposite side. He needed to use the weight pin from the stack on the opposite side to hold the extra 45 in. There was a guy trying to do tricep push downs but when he realized he couldn't adjust the weight on the stack because the cable row guy was using it, he just went over to another exercise.
