It bothers me that I don't have a good answer for this because I read all the time however most of that is shitty sort news articles about current events, politics, engineering shit. I need more long form material but I can't stay focused on it. I'm always moving to the next thing.

Are you me? I drift from one hobby to another every couple months, learn enough on it to be pretty damn good if i stick to it, then quit and do something else. I just can't keep focused and that really does bother me.

mental fitness is the hardest to measure. Its difficult to know where you are at compared to others. I'm pretty old and I've learned you gotta go with who you are. Some people hyperfocus on one subject and become experts. Some, like us, are too naturally curious about the world and drift in our interests. I think that makes us better conversationalists since we don't always want to talk about the same fucking thing.

I know one realization I've come to from all my reading. Humans are only gonna get one shot using up all the natural resources to get off this rock and go into space before some huge disaster like an asteroid. Will we make it? Doubtful. Does anyone even have a sense of fucking direction to take the human race? Are any governments planning a thousand years ahead? You ever notice that we don't have any grand structures of the modem age that will last as long add the pyramids have? Besides nuclear waste?

I learned you need to be concerned about your mental hygiene. By that I mean be fucking careful about what you expose yourself to. A great example is /pol/. You might read it for the lulz, but you pick up themes and words and before you know it you are calling people cucks elsewhere. Then they look that up and brand you a racist. And further down the hole you fall. Also violence like beheading and murders. You don't want to get desensitized to that. Also porn! It makes you crave unobtainable women. And so on. Be careful what you watch. It does affect you more than you think.

Right now i'm reading Journey to the west. That shit is extremely interesting. It got like, 1400 pages, but time just flies when i'm reading.

Im pretty dumb. Flunked out of high school. Im interested in science and history but can really only understand/digest very simple stuff or popular science stuff. I was always interested when studying but could only keep up with the rest of the class for the first few weeks.. Could never ask for help either because I couldnt remember even pretty basic maths I was already supposed to know. I like reading though, and I read classics sometimes but preferably the more adventurous or exciting ones.
