>Far more women in this country wear a size 16 than a size 6

69% of American adults are overweight. 36% are obese. this is health issue, and it's not gonna go away by pointing fingers at the fashion industry. in the long run, the more we enable and normalize obesity the worse the issue will go.

>There is no reason larger women can’t look just as fabulous as all other women.

Fit and healthy will always be more fabulous than fat and lazy, no matter how much designer clothes you throw on it.

>Done right, our clothing can create an optical illusion that helps us look taller and slimmer.

Fixing problems with an optical illusion. The ILLUSION of fixing a problem. yep. keep burying you head in the sand.

Gunn is a washed up never-was and the worst part about Project Runway.
His opinions on fashion are dated and even were bad back in the 80s.

What a fucking hack

Fuck sakes it's all an issue of economics. First and foremost, the yardage of fabric needed to cover an overweight women is far higher than that required to cover a normal weight woman, so right out of the gate throw away your notion that it will or should cost the same as clothing for healthy weight women.

Next, the actual differences between healthy weighted women's bodies are far smaller than the differences between overweight women. You're a healthy weight woman with a large set of hips? Buy a size up and get the shoulders and such adjusted. Your rack's too big for anything by this designer, well I guess they're not for you. The idea of sizes may not even work for overweight women, 200lbs women at 5'6" look very different, is she a box with fat even distributed, is it all lower body, is it all on the gut so you look like Violet Beauregarde, is it up in the shoulders? You wanna create 6 different patterns for each size, and still require a shitload of tailoring? You could somewhat get around this by liberally using lycra and other stretchy materials, but that's going to look cheap and silly (that 5lbs bag, 10lbs of sand look), god knows those dresses won't be bought. It's just not economical for them to create stylish mass market clothing for fat women, but to have them pay exorbitant prices for custom made or cheap easy-to-make dumpy clothing that will fit all body types.

Next, you can't force someone to create something for you(at least not in the west). You cannot demand a designer create clothing and make it available it for whatever demographic you desire, no matter how much you scream about "potential market size". I can't demand Nike make proCombat tops in deer camo. If the designer decides not to make something, the free market gets to decide whether they're right or wrong. If they would rather chose cultivating an image of glamour and thinness rather than going after bigger money in helping fat girls feel somewhat normal, then so be it.

>Adding to this travesty is a major department-store chain that makes you walk under a marquee that reads “WOMAN.” What does that even imply? That a “woman” is anyone larger than a 12, and everyone else is a girl? It’s mind-boggling.

What happened to "REAL WOMEN HAVE MUH CURVES"? They keep moving the goalpost into whatever territory they're pretending to be.

First they inflate the definition of "real women".
When real women realize they can call themselves "girls" in comparison to the horrid sowbeast, now the sowbeast wants to be called "girl."

It will never fucking end.

>Seventy-four percent of plus-size women described shopping in stores as “frustrating”; 65 percent said they were “excluded.”

Excluded.

>In the club
>Walk toward door
>See exit getting closer, keep walking
>Step outside, bouncer warns you'll have to pay cover for reentry
>Stand outside shouting "Stop excluding me!"

Fat acceptance.

>go to H&M
>be perfectly average, 1.78m, 78kg
>try out a hoodie, Medium size
>torso is fine, shoulders and sleeves are too big
>try out Small
>shoulders and sleeves are now good, but torso is tight as fuck
I never understood why this happens at H&M and other cheap places, do they design their clothes around Asians with tiny torsos?

Same, all the clothes nowadays are made for /fa/ twinks.
