Got confirmation that I'm in for my first comp on 1st October.

Was worried with the state of WL in UK I'd be the only one in my weight class and would have the hollow victory by default but there's 6 other guys in the 77kg.

I was expecting everyone to be younger than me at 24 but they're all quite older except one.

I'll most likely come last though, coach wants ke to go 6/6 rather than push myself as it's my first comp. Probably end up going 60/75 if in lucky.

I'm making the move to a home gym. Got a decent set with 300lbs of iron so sticking to power snatch/clean and snatch/clean deads and pulls as far as wl related things go.

I need more weight to be able to squat and DL effectively so I figure I will round out with a bumper set.

Obviously craigslist etc. is the first place to look, but any known places to scoop cheap (relatively) bumpers?

And yes, go for 6/6 mate. I did my second comp a couple weeks ago and we aimed for 6/6 rather than pb's. Ended up with 5/6 and a total 12 kilos under gym best but still 40 up on last comp and more experience in the bag, so enjoy urself lad

currently been lifting for 5 months. i really want to get into oly lifting, but my current gym (local y) Is pretty lame in terms of rules about chalk, dropping weights, etc. until I'm able to find a gym that caters to oly lifting, what sort of routine should i get into. i figure a huge focus on front squat and shoulder pressing along with deadlifts would be a good start.

also, anybody know anything about Richard "Smitty" Smith. guy was an Olympian coach with a few Olympic games under his belt, also my neighbor for around 8 years. he passed away sadly in 2014. Pretty awesome guy, would love to know about his contributions to the sport

Mobility, lifting shoes, lots of heavy squats, don't worry about deads just do power cleans instead. Try doing overhead squats as that is a great mobility test, but if you cant drop weights you can't full snatch yet.

I also wrote one saying how block periodization are not worth doing and lot of weightlifters and powerlifters encourage broken programs. Did you know that block periodization was never created for weightlifters? Powerlifters needs to modify the hell out of it to make it to work and most of the time their programs are “good enough” but not #OPTIMAL. I also mentioned that it’s not powerlifters fault but it is American’s fault for not having a system. I discovered that Russians do have an yearly programs for powerlifters.
You guys can look up Dr. Yessis on why America sucks. He doesn’t really propose anything new but he made the Soviet system available to us which is really useful. He basically says America sucks because America is not Russia.

gross oversimplification of Marketing, and not the field I plan on being in. It's not going to be advertising or communications-based. What I'll be going for is pricing, R&D, and market research. It really depends on the shoe, you want a snug fit, that's for sure, so lots of shoes should be bought half a size down. Go talk to a podiatrist, or a proper shoefitter to talk about your feet. They will be able to tell you what shape your feet are, high/low instep, wide/narrow forefoot, etc... I went to a really well regarded skiboot fitter recently and he was able to tell me all about my feet.

As I understand it, romaleos fit people with a wider forefoot better than most other wl shoes. However most shoes will give quite a bit in the toebox over time anyway.

The only shoes worth buying have a stiff upper and rigid soles. And apart from the last adipowers they wear really well if all you do is lift in them.

i've been lifting for over 1 and i want to start moving into an olympic lifting program from a general Starting Strength split. does this seem like a good program for a beginner in terms of technique and application of olympic lifts. all i've done before were power snatches and power cleans from Starting Strength.
