Rank the following forms of cardio from best to worst:

Running
Swimming
Cycling
Rowing

What are their relative pros and cons?
>>
>>38362264
Idk, they all seems ok, but I guess cycling is the worst by default because of
>pompous mindset it generates
>drivers eager to run your ass over
>overall danger of biking
>>
>>38362264
1.rowing
2.swimming
3.cycling
4.sprinting
5.walking
6. Power gap
7. Jogging.

Mainly joint impact/risk of injury, combined with how reliant each exercise on atp/cp vs glycolysis vs oxidative systems, and how that affects your nutrient partioning, gene expression, post-exercise cortisol levels,post-exercise test & gh levels (always wait at least 1 hour post training before spiking your insulin, or you will suppress this response, the anabolic window is a meme, eat pre workout, not post workout).

I could elaborate a bit, but i am lazy and it is tedious stuff.

Fullbody, mostly anaerobic, low i pact exercided are best.

Barbell complexes are my preferred cardio.

Plyometrics are good too
>>
it depends on your goals there is no best, the best thing would be to mix it up
>>
>>38362285
What about using a stationary?
>>
>>38362326
Impact exercises*
>>
Rowing is memecardio

Swimming is toppest tier
>>
>>38362264
>Cycling
It may cause ED
>>
>>38362326
>always wait at least 1 hour post training before spiking your insulin
going to need a source on that buddy

plus I doubt that it would even make a difference
>>
>>38362264
1. rowing (low impact uses most of your body)
2. swimming (risk of drowning)
3. cycling (low impact only uses your legs)
4. running (R.I.P. your knees)
>>
>>38362362
Swimming is more fullbody, but generally more aerobic.

I suppose if you did some measure of "sprint" swimming, you could actually get a better workout than rowing, however.

I have never heard of HIIT for swimming.. And i do not swim enough to know if such a thing can be done.
>>
>>38362382
>4. running (R.I.P. your knees)
if you run like a retard
>>
>>38362392
>I have never heard of HIIT for swimming
You can literally do HIIT for every form of cardio to ever exist.
>>
>>38362393
Or are a hamplanet
>>
>>38362373
>he doesnt know spiking your insulin lowers endogenous igf-1 levels
Spotted the uneducated plebeian.
Try learning literally anything about igf-1
>>
>>38362408
yeah so

insulin is an anabolic hormone anyway why would I care about igf-1

what am I going to build if I dont eat
>>
>>38362403
Hiit walking?
Hiit jogging?
Hiit yoga?
Do you kmow what anaerobic means?
>>
>>38362424
You can increase your insulin levels literally any time you want, just by virtue of eating.

You dont get crazy high levels of gh and test all day everday, like you can have insulin.

Why would you waste that huge opportunity by stifling the adaptive response of elevated gh and test?

Use your common sense, goddamnit! COME ON!!
It really is the best possible case scenario
>>
>>38362264
Swimming and rowing are tied #1.

Actually works out your upper train and most of all your back.
>>
>>38362431
I figured you'd be a complete bellend
>>
>>38362431
not him but of course you can do HIIT swimming
>>
>>38362460
did you factor in the catabolic responses you get post workout if you dont eat
>>
Cardio before or after working out?
>>
>>38362512
After if you care about lifts
Before if you care about performance in regards to whatever cardio you are doing
>>
>>38362264
1) Running: 7/10
Pros:
>Convenience and ease in doing, you've probably run before at least once
>ease in headphone usage
>Easy all around fat burn, I do it when my face is becoming too fat
Cons:
>Heavy strain on knees, wears down cartilage if done for a long time
>Can be easily harassed by anyone
>Known to kill gains

2)Swimming: 9/10
Pros:
>Best cardio if done correctly
>Works every muscle
Cons:
>Hard as fuck
>You probably can't do it correctly and will looks like an idiot at your public pool.
>No facial weight loss

3)Cycling: 4/10 Shit tier cardio for ham planets
Pros:
>Are there any?
>Works quads and lower glutes well
>Can be done on while traveling to places where you'll do better workouts
Cons:
>Does absolutely nothing.

4) Rowing: 8/10
Pros:
>Works legs and back very well if done correctly
>Easy to add more resistance

Cons:
>Technique is very hard for this as well, you'll probably look like an idiot starting here too
>Usually pretty expensive to do. My club charges $550 for membership.

Using an ergometer at the gym works, just be sure to keep the resistance fan between 4 and 5. People make the mistake of flipping it up to 10 and gassing out after 5 minutes. You wouldn't just slap 3 pl8 as a warmup would you?
>>
>>38362512
why do you guys combine cardio and weights at all

do cardio at another time
>>
>>38362568
>>No facial weight loss
>>Does absolutely nothing.
really makes me think
>>
>>38362264
>Cycling not elder god tier
Stay pleb carfags.

Let me guess, you have to push your bike uphill?
>>
>>38362326
complete and utter broscience. Your post sounds like a tnation article. The fact that you think barbell complexes are cardio says a lot.
>>
>>38362536
So if I want to do Muay Thai, cardio before
>>
>>38362460
You have no idea what youre talking about.
>>
>>38362686
After
>>
>>38362686
fighting is already cardio m8
>>
>>38362392
>I have never heard of HIIT for swimming.

Clearly you've never swam for a swim team before. HIIT is a staple for swimming training.
>>
Will rowing actually work my entire body? I know it's just a pull movement so presumably it neglects chest

Just started lurking /fit/.
This could just as well have been writin in spanish for me.
>>
>>38362818
how come swimmers arent jacked as sprinters if its also HIIT
>>
>>38362495
Yes. That is the point.

It is the catabolic stress that results an adaptive response.

You grow from the 48-72 hours elevated protein synthesis post training, not from
>muh anabolic window
>>
>>38362404
You don't need to be a hamplanet - being a stocky dude is just as bad

>>38363038
It's not all HIIT just that swimmers do that in training. 8 50m max rest 10s I can come up with as an example.

Also the extra weight is just not worth it for the extra power. Florent Manaudou is about as jacked as you will see as he specialises in the 50m sprint.
>>
>Running
Pros: Best form of cardio exercise if you're looking for cardio gains. Cheap and very easy to get into.
Cons: High injury rate since everyone has shitty form and overdoes themselves. Lots of willpower after 13 miles.

>Swimming
Pros: Low impact. Extremely fun. Excellent cardio. Counts double as resistance.
Cons: Need water source.

>Cycling
Pros: Very low impact. Easy to get into. Very good for overweight people trying to get into it.
Cons: Expensive. Have to learn how it operates so you can fix it, otherwise you risk paying lots for repairs.

>Rowing
Pros: Cardio for the entire body.
Cons: Expensive.
>>
Doesn't rowing have one of the highest injury rates of any sport
>>
>>38362568

Can we stop this meme now? If it hurts, you either:
1) Got extremely shit form.
2) Doing too much in short period of time.
3) Have shitty shoes.
4) A combination of all the above.
>>
>>38362264
Swimming actually keeps your body temperature fairly low and allows you to push yourself harder then you would normally.
It's also burns a SHIT TON of calories.
>>
>>38362568
>Cycling
What if I use a stationary? Not a hamplanet just fat. Can't run right now because it's raining hard af and I don't have access to a gym or treadmill
>>
>>38363208
Rowing hits legs, front delts, tricep, and chest?
>>
w..what about jump rope?
>>
>>38362264
I row at college and trust me, a 2k is the hardest thing ever created. If you can walk afterwards, you are lucky.
>>
I ran for the first time in months today. It sucks so much getting back into it, especially outdoors in 90 F weather.
>>
>>38363459
You can find out what it uses here.

Running is the best because it is the least boring and you can do it anywhere. It allows maximum freedom with your routines, you can do it on vacation or if the gym is closed. The time commitment is minimal, it is practical, and it is excellent and natural exercise. Burns the most calories overall (swimming and rowing may burn more if done correctly but you're not going swim or row at high enough intensity for the same time as you would jog.

Swimming is practical and good too but you need instruction or as others have said you're wasting your time. It is also usually boring and hard on your hair and skin if you do it often.

Rowing and cycling are good for warm ups and not much else.
>>
>>38363459
I can understand you asking about legs but generally nearly all muscles are used to some extent.

Whichever you find most enjoyable!
Cycling is my preferred cardio, but then again I am upper middle-class white male.
>>
>>38364575
im glad the right one is dead
>>
>>38362892
Just remember these three words:

Fullbody anaerobic cardio.
>>
>>38362892
Dont worry its bullshit.
>>
Sleds haven't been mentioned, but they are very good as well. Can walk with them or load them heavy enough that you can't really sprint even when you're pushing hard, thereby avoiding the impact forces associated with running, but still getting a solid conditioning stimulus. Also quite specific to various sporting activities.

>>38363226
No. There are quite a few guys in their seventies and eighties on the C2 forum who used to run or play rugby or do various other things that they can't do anymore because of accumulated injuries, but they can still row, and indeed set age-group records.

Also, elite rowers have the highest absolute VO2 maxes of all endurance athletes.

>>38363256
The cartilage thing is a meme, but the risk of injury in general isn't. It's easy to say
>too much too soon
but hard and potentially costly to figure out what exactly is the right amount, since running injuries tend to build up slowly over time.

>>38363479
Pretty similar to running. Gets easier the better you are at it. Better for staying light on the feet/training the boxer's shuffle than for pure conditioning, IMO.
>>
>>38362382
risk of drowning are you fucking serious bro?

The only risk of drowning is if you don't practice swimming and you fall in some water and actually drown because you can't fucking swim
>>
>>38362264

What about climbing stairs or stadiums breh?
>>
>>38362264
Depends on your goals
Swimmong and rowing are always god tier
Running and hiit are worth it for leg gains, for when you play a sport where you're on your feet
