A kipping muscle up is the equivalent of this shit.
Completely takes the benefit of "resistance" out of a strength building exercise.
>>
>>38285814
neck yourself my man. people who think doing 7 minutes of vertical worm is like training for battle are absolute dropkicks.
>>
>>38285742
I get so fucking sick of hearing everyone say 'they're not doing it right' or 'those aren't real pullups'. Like I don't give a shit about crossfit but it's just such a stupid thing to say. No, they aren't doing strict pullups. They're doing a variation called kipping pullups, it's a different exercise. It's like the difference between a strict overhead press and a split jerk. In one you try to isolate only the muscles in the upper body, in the other you use the whole body to generate force. It's fine if you don't want to do them, but it's also fine if someone else wants to do them.
>>
>>38286141
Behold what perfection and mastery of the muscle up should look like

Thanks for the cringe

>>38286176

>>
>>38285954
Underrated
>>
>>38286161

This is a retarded as fuck analogy mate.

For one, kipping pull ups in their own right do not produce progression. Progression for jerks if any variety can be programmed linearly. There is literally 0 benefit to doing kipping pull ups vs real pull ups.

I'm just gonna ignore the rest of the stupidity

>>38286222
>Yesterday I could do 20 kipping pullups
>Today I can do 25 kipping pullups
Prrrrrrrrogression
>>
>>38286161
Not it's not like that difference

A strict press is all about using only the strength of your shoulders/triceps, some chest, etc to push weight overhead.
>A strength exercise

A split jerk or squat jerk is all about using your entire body to to generate force to push as much weight as you can overhead. The initial power comes from driving through powerful legs and pressing through with the shoulders and triceps to catch it at the top completing the lift by standing up with your legs.
>A strength exercise.

A strict pull up is all about using only the strength of your biceps, lats, etc to pull your body weight upwards.
>A strength exercise

A kipping pull up comes from swinging your body like a whip to generate momentum so you can pull yourself upwards easier. It turns a strength exercise into an easier progression for beginner or for people who can do pull ups easily reduces the exercise to an endurance exercise. It's completely different,
You'd get the same kind of workout if you got a resistance band and did pull ups or muscle ups with that for reps. It barely improves your physical strength and hardly improves your endurance. You'd be better off increasing your strength and just going for a run. Kipping is for beginners to use as a progression to build strength.
>>
>>38286256
don't forget the longer you kip the higher probability to fuck up joints. Theres a reason why rhabdo is correlated with crossfit

They're a bunch of retards, but when you're on that much gear and you do things that push your body and you eat well, you will grow, and look great.

Their way is unoptimized and even dangerous, but it does still work in that respect.

Then again a trash diet and casual pokemon go will put you ahead of the pack on huge amounts of roids

Wow, you can see my body even though I haven't posted a pic? Crossfit apparently give you clairvoyance, too.
>>
>>38286378
KK is also my height and makes my swole ass look like Skeletor.

Mechanically, as you grow longer, pull-ups get exponentially harder. KK is long.
>>
>>38286256
>You'd get the same kind of workout if you got a resistance band and did pull ups or muscle ups with that for reps
So you have never tried kipping pullups and decided to write them off entirely because 4chan told you to. Had you actually tried them, you'd know that no, you wouldn't get the same kind of workout. Kip-ups are very taxing on your abs, all that momentum isn't coming from nowhere.
>>
>>38286394
>Mechanically, as you grow longer, pull-ups get exponentially harder.
Justify this.
>>
>>38286414
Levers grow longer, angle stays approximately the same, weight scales as a square of height (roughly).

Same general muscle at the same angle pulling more bodyweight, all else being equal

Not generally, unless you have unusually short (high? idk what adjective to use here, closer to the fulcrum) muscle insertions

>pulling more bodyweight
So what you meant to say was heavier
>>
>>38286446
Yes, taller people are, all other things being equal, pulling a heavier weight over a longer distance, this is harder.

Our absolute strength is far past that of a manlet, the manlets relative strength is far past ours. Guess which one is more beneficial to manipulating your bodyweight gracefully and fluidly? At odd or disadvantaged angles?

And lever length amplifies the issues caused by additional weight, and that's pretty much tall- exclusive.

Equating the power of a jerk to the power of a pipping pull up is laughable

Then do dragon flags or hanging leg raises. Add ankle weights. Do l-sit pull ups. You're abs you be activated when doing pull ups anyway to keep a straight body line with feet slightly in front of you. There are better ways to train abs than kipping pull ups.

The circuit part looks pretty fun, was thinking about combining it with my powerlifting calling it POWERCROSS FIT. Whereas I would run around in the gym supersetting the bench, deadlift and squat and I'd have to do muscle-ups at every horizontal hanging bar I come across.

The point of a muscle-up is to build strength and increase mobility. It teaches your brain that your muscles that it can move in ways it thought it can't. The brain already knows how to kip by using momentum. That doesn't build strength, which is what muscle-ups are for.

And before you get into it, no it's not for cardio. Maybe if they wanted to do endurance based exercises, maybe they should learn to actually run, cycle, or do more reps without kipping.
>>
>>38288048

Unless you'e a crossfitter. For them, the muscle-up (with kipping typically allowed) is a competition event. No different to a powerlifter using a hard arch when benching or an oly lifter using a full clean over a power or split clean.
>>
>>38285992
This was the first ever program I did it for me from 5 to 20 chin-ups and motivate me to hit the gym
>>
>>38288055
Which again defeats the entire point of the muscle-up. Just because it's allowed in competition doesn't make it valid.
>>
>>38288070
Maybe it defeats the point of you doing the excercise for a specific goal. It doesn't seem to matter for the crossfitter getting more points(or however they get a winner).
>>
>>38285971

>>

>The brain already knows how to kip by using momentum.
nope

I guarantee that even with a kip you cant do a muscle up if you've never done it before

Kipping is a skill in its own. Calling it a muscle up when kipping like them is silly yes.
>>
>>38288248
The point of CrossFit is to determine who is the most fit person. Doing kips with momentum for points means absolute shit if the point of the exercise is to build strength and mobility. It completely demolishes the entire point of finding who is the most fit person if your not doing the exercise for what it is meant for.
>>
>>38288356

One example. Let me show you one example also. Pic related. It's the finisher medal I got from running the Pittsburgh marathon in 3 hrs and 45 mins. Many CFers claimed they could it. I challenged them. None of them completed it. Elite athletes represent the few. They are not the majority. Neither is this matathon finish. That's exceptions, not the rule.
>>
>>38288462
I hate those guys as well, not just the ones that say they can do just about anything, but also the ones who just say they "do crossfit" for the sake of it. Anyone who takes CrossFit and himself as a CrossFitter seriously knows that they can't be the best endurance athlete, strength athlete and gymnastics athlete all at once. CrossFit's motto is all about not specialising but even then lots of them are actually specialised. Some of them are tremendous endurance athletes (Sam Briggs for example, former biathlete and triathlete and winner of the Games in 2013 IIRC, she won the first event of this year's games which was a 7km trail run and placed third among the men) good strength athletes (Mat Fraser, former Olympian weightlifter, Sam Dancer, who deadlifted 615lbs 15min after the 7km trail run, Rich Froning C&J'ed like 395 lbs, Tia Clair Toomey who made top 5 in this years Olympics group B)
And good gymnasts (Ryan Elrod, Camille Leblanc Bazinet who aced the ring HSPUs for example)
Great Sprinters (Dan Bailey, who's the fastest man in CF)
>>
>>38285938
I was up to 21 of them a year ago but now I'm down to just 8

>>
>>38288540
Crossfitters are endurance athletes. They're good ones at that. My issue is what i've been arguing this entire time: they claim they're fit when they take the actual exercise out of the exercise by substituting momentum. Then, like in my post, CFers claim they can do a marathon with very minimal running. I have yet to see one complete it. I wouldn't be surprised if s CFer did, but it would be an exception, not the rule. Just like Rich is an exception, not the rule. Hell, one my HS classmates was 3 years ago one of the top CFer, but he was an exception, not the rule.

Anyways, I'm off to do my long run.
>>

We rarely use the kip in our programming. 80% of the time we train strict. CrossFitters aren't just endurance athletes I'd say, they're just athletes. Cause the events are not just about endurance. (the DL ladder this year, the C&J 1RM event last year, the Overhead Squat 1RM event the year before, the Snatch Ladder, the Clean ladder just to name a few)

Enjoy your run, I have a half marathon row to do, fml I hate endurance stuff.

A taller person is also moving the weight a longer distance.

Also, heavier for the same build is enough different from just being heavier to mention.

don't need em, some are natural the ones at the games are or have been juicing during their "bodybuilding" phase

Come on, I'm into CrossFit and I have to admit that most of them at the top level are on some shit, since WADA started testing CrossFit athlete there have been some athletes getting banned. Most recent one being the CrossFit Westside team along with the gym manager getting banned.

Why is it necessary women have to dress like whores in the gym? Its is something to do with their anatomy?

Yeah it's impressive in it's own way similar to a kipping muscle up. They look cool but strict form versions are much more impressive as they require more strength and control.

>>38291540
>the only way to do an exercise is a variation only top athletes can perform.
Nice strawman equating me posting a demonstration of how an advanced muscle up is performed with saying that is the only way a muscle up should be done.
You can do 20 reps of push ups on the floor. you don't go and spend 7 minutes trying to do as many lean against the wall-lean assisted push ups do you? Why would you train the easier exercise? It's almost futile. If you can do strict muscle ups, why do the easier progression of kipping? Strict muscle ups too easy? Add weight, add variation. Progressive overload is how muscles grow in strength and size. Even with bodyweight exercises you should strive for progressive overload, make the exercise harder, change the leverage etc.
