Why do you guys recommend 3x5, 5x5, compounds, etc. when most military establishments focus on calisthenics and running? Is it just because there's a higher risk of injury? Practicality?
>>
>>38241958
Endurance is real strength and actually practical in real life, lifting really heavy things for 5 reps is pointless unless in the real world
>>
military establishments care about stuff that require little coaching, equipment or judging. they need things they can easily apply to a huge number of morons.

>most military establishments focus on calisthenics and running?

I don't give a fuck.
>>
>>38241958
Calisthenics gives you more than enough functional strength and cardio is for endurance, people who can do high rep calisthenics and run for miles are more fit than bodybuilders
>>
Practicality. For one it's a lot cheaper to have thousands of soldiers train simultaneously using just their body weight and pull up/ dip bars. Also, soldiers need more endurance than anything. No one wants to have to push the fat fuck specialist when he can't carry his weight and keeps passing out. Strength is important, but typically doesn't need to be trained.
>>
>>38242008
This

The 230 lb powerlifter is useless in a military situation because he's slow and has no endurance, they want smaller guys who can go for a long time
>>
>>38242007
Well duh,
>most of /fit/ are beta perma virgins who can't walk without breathing heavy
>most veterans get pussy regularly and can actually achieve an erection
>>
because military pt is deprecated. theyre slowly waking up, though.

Butthurt bodybuilder detected

U mad your heavy lifts don't matter at all in a real life situation and a military guy could run circles around you without breathing heavy at all?
>>
>>38242067
>hey guys you know despite the fact soldiers now adays carry more shit THEN THE FUCKING KNIGHTS OF OLD you should just run
You dumb nignog
>>
>>38242100
The soldiers get stronger by carrying that stuff.
Not by lifting perfectly even weight in air conditioned gyms and doing gear.
>>
>>38242100
Also most vets get fucked up from all that running and their knees goes to shit. Why do you vets and active duty guys love lifting in their off time?
>>
>>38242049
>Starting strength.com

Yeah, a small amount of strength training MIGHT be needed. But the fact of the matter is, it's only worth a shit in the places where actual warfare isnt' taking place.
On naval ships and well away from the frontlines.

Lifting weights is totally pointless whwn training for a military situation

Why do gymnasts teach somersaults when most military establishments focus on calisthenics and running?

Stamina is the name of the game in the military. Your CV needs to be in good shape to carry you through whatever you need to do and bodyweight circuits and plenty of running and swimming do just that.

On the safety side of things, bodyweight circuits are easy to control and they're low impact.

>>38241958
>Practicality?

Pretty much. But they also have access to some really nice gyms, and lifting is pretty popular among military personnel.
>>
>>38242171
It's all about endurance in the military
>>
>>38242116

Soldiers also often wind up invented afterwards, display very high rates of substance or alcohol abuse, criminal offences, and in the case of the infantry display knee issues that well greatly affect life as well as a host of other health issues focussing around joints.

The reason they don't do much strength training is because it's not necessary for many soldiers, and the net gain from all your ground pounders being able to squat 3pl8 is very low when you just need them to run forever, carry a pack and a gun and shoot.

So yeah, if you want to trade your gym for all that, more power to you, but I won't be.
>>
>>38241958

Because most military people aren't strong, just able to run for a while with loads of gear, until their body gives out from years of doing this and the military casts them off with minimal payouts.
>>
>>38241958
that's what actual fitness is......... going to the gym a hour a day isn't real fitness
>>
>>38242179
Most military service members I know can outlift pretty much everyone on /fit/. Atleast Army and Marines.
Their gyms are badass and packed almost 24/7.
/fit/ just likes to hate on service members because /fit/ is the exact opposite. /fit/ is mostly cowards and virgins.
>>
>>38242067

You didn't read the links, did you
>>
>>38242162
which one will get me into the olympics tho
>>
>>38242167
I read one of those articles from STARTING STRENGTH.
It was a piece of fluff.
Naval officer says that something fell on someone and it was too heavy so they needed to lift heavy.
There was also something about moving heavy shit easier on a air craft carrier.
Didn't read anything about strength training being at all necessary or even beneficial.

And if you read those articles or even understood them then you'd actually be able to argue my points instead of just pointing me to the articles themselves.
>>
>>38242228
Military, it's more endurance based and actually counts as being fit
>>
>>38242180
Endurance and functional strength yes.
>>
>>38242256
then why have none of the current gold medal winners been in the military
>>
>>38242267
Yeah and lifting barbells isn't functional irl

Even brick layers I know are stronger and more /fit/ than guys who go to the gym everyday
>>
>>38242246
i dont understand why youre writing starting strength all capitalized.
>it was too heavy so they needed to lift heavy.
>Didn't read anything about strength training being at all necessary or even beneficial.
nigga what
>There was also something about moving heavy shit easier on a air craft carrier.
nigga what

the articles are written well and carry the message through better than i can. there's a reason textbooks still exist. not going to spoonfeed a retard like you
>>
>>38242272
Obviously because people in the Olympics only train for their sport
>>
>>38242303
so being in the military won't get me into the olympics
but you told me it would

>>
>>38242279
>tfw used to be a roofer and more than half of them were on roids

They did roids because they didn't get paid hourly they got paid by the job and roids made the jobs faster and easier, they had 1 a crew of 4 guys who roided in my company and they got 8k worth of work done everyday and they almost made 1300 each in 1 day on an average day
>>
>>38242323
Military cares more about endurance, they don't care about 1 rep maxes

>>
Military fitness standards pretty much are endurance based, Ideally you want to have the endurance to crank out a hundred push upsand chin ups but you would also want the raw strength to pick 400 pounds up off the floor
>>
>>38241958
Because the military need body builders u stupid fuk lol. All they gotta do is run shoot and get shot at lmao.
>>
>>38242419
Higher physical standards than we do here, the average American military infantry person wouldn't even be close to making it in the Russian military
>>
>>38242292
>>it was too heavy so they needed to lift heavy.
One of the main reasons why a man that was chiming in on strength training was because a heavy object had fallen on a soldier and he said one soldier was not strong enough to lift it. You'd know that if you actually read it.

>>Didn't read anything about strength training being at all necessary or even beneficial.
They never made a good case for strength training being an official part of military training.

>>There was also something about moving heavy shit easier on a air craft carrier.
Most of what that soldier talked about was how heavy lifting would make life on an aircraft carrier easier, for some reason.

>the articles are written well and carry the message through better than i can. there's a reason textbooks still exist. not going to spoonfeed a retard like you

And you haven't been able to argue those well written points. Meaning that you either never read them, or you did but didn't understand them enough to be able to argue the logic behind them.

Considering how hard the greeny weenie fucks soldiers, I would say that lifting is safer by far.
>>
I joined the army during the 2007 surge and weighed in at a 121 skeleton and got a waiver to get in. I left the Army 5 years and two deployments later at 160 at a BMI of 21. During that time I did zero lifting other than Army PT. It doesn't make you into a beast it just gets you into a level where you can function in country and carry your own gear.

As for not needing huge dudes, you really don't. Because anytime something heavy needs to be lifted, you are literally surrounded by 30+ dudes (if you're combat arms) constantly. If we took a casualty there wasn't one guy who Forest Gumped that shit, you'd have multiple people helping.

All you really need to be functional in the army and combat arms in general is decent endurance, the ability to walk around with ~80lbs of shit bearing down on your shoulders/back for hours on end, and slight general arm strength to simply hold your weapon correctly.

I will say that most service members are out of shape (yes that includes the MUHRINES too) when compared to other country's militaries. But fuck it, call for fire and win every time. CAS always on station.
>>
>>38242479
Sure if you mean beating the living shit out of recruits and humiliations.

>>
>>38241958
They focus on calisthenics because you try getting some 1.5 millions troops workout equipment.

You gotta be able to run in a combat environment. Position and movement is key.
>>
>>38242615

>>38242615
You proved his point. You've got to be tough as fuck to be in russian military

Dome brit medal winners arr serving millitary. The Army releases them from other duties to prepare though, so it's not quite the same. Also special forces are at near Olympic levels of fitness.

The Army needs you fit. But it needs you to have good technical skills and to perform other duties too, so there is a limit of how much fitness you can do in the working day.
>>
>>38242928
how many special forces could qualify for Olympic table tennis tho

>>38242968

>>
>>38243093
He has a point though...... special forces are the most fit people on earth and olympic athletes cannot compete with them
>>
>>38243185
not they're not
olympic athletes have to swim and run places, special forces can just take helicopters
>>
>>38243206

>>
>>38243271
lol then why does the military buy helicopters
really now have you even read clausewitz
>>
>>38243185
Olympians are more fit than SF guys, but SF guys can do way more with way less. So an Olympian gets perfect sleep every night, trains 8 hours a day, eats an awesome diet, and therefore is the pinnacle of physicality. But that shit goes away fast.
SF and Rangers, on the other hand, can go for 4 or 5 days straight with barely any food or sleep and still kill the shit out of the enemies of the US.
>>
>>38243344
but what the special forces aren't american
>>
>>38242026
>implying being a good lifter and having endurance are mutually exclusive
they're not.
>>
>>38243185
>special forces are the most fit people on earth
Not really, want to know how I'm so sure?
>Genetics
While humans vary widely in genetic potential for certain activities, the top 0.0001% are very close together. There is no distinct "sf breed."
>Talent pool
Much fewer people apply for special forces than participate in sports to a point where their potential can be noticed.
>Time
Sf soldiers have lots of stuff to do besides train physically. For Olympic athletes that's not the case.
>Incentive
Sf soldiers get a decent job, prestige and pride. Oly athletes get all that plus more money and fame.

Or by pure observation:
The fastest runners are athletes.
The fastest swimmers are athletes.
The best boxers are athletes.
etc. etc.

My dad was division champion at the range, regiment champ in boxing with 3 years of non-stop combat experience.
My mom beats him at ping-pong every time, because she played as a kid.
