hi /fit/, fatty here, been lifting for about 4 months. people who can do pullups, how much weight can you do on the lat pulldown machine? i ask because my bodyweight is 230 lbs, I do 3x5x180 lbs on the pulldown machine, but cant do any pullups. Just wondering when I can expect to start being able to do pullups, so please post:
>your bodyweight
>how many pullups you can do (and added weight if you use it)
>how much weight you can lift on the lat pulldown machine, for how many reps
I'm just looking for an idea of how far off I am from doing pulldowns, because I heard that a bodyweight lat pulldown is harder than a pullup from a friend at the gym.
>do pullup negatives
I do already, they are definitely helping but I cant yet do a positive
>use the assisted pullup machine
my gym doesnt have one
>just do rows
i do also (my pendlay row is currently 145 for 5)
Thanks guys

130 for 3x12

180

3x5 on a good day with a supinated grip
>lat pulls
155 for 5x5 with a pronated grip
275, 11 pullups, 200 x 8

Is supinated grip easier than pronated grip? Maybe that's my problem, I've just been doing pronated grip
Thanks for the replies though guys it seems like you don't have to pulldown bodyweight in order to do pullups (which seems physics defying but idk). Hopefully I can start doing pullups soon :D

supinated grip is far easier because it allows your biceps to fully activate, huge difference
btw a pull up with a pronated grip is a chin up

One week id go light on lat pulldown (both close and wide grip) and do 5 sets of 15 reps and do 5 sets of 8 on chinups and wide grip pull ups
Then the next week go heavy 5x5 wide and close on lat pulldown and do 5 sets of 10-failure on chinups and pullups

That makes a lot of sense. I'll try and do some chin ups next time I'm in the gym!

10 at best.

I've never tried as much as possible, used to do 85kg x 12 when I actually did them.
