Not really a regular, but I had a question before and now I'm back.
So I am currently trying to lose weight. I started at 6 foot tall weighing 275 pounds. Now I'm 3 months in and am down to 222 pounds.
I hit the gym regularly (3-5 times per week) but I do cardio almost exclusively.
I always smelled some ammonia when in the locker room and I always thought it had something to do with how they clean the lockers. But today when I was showering I realized that it's actually myself that smells of ammonia after working out.
Do any of you have an idea why this happens? Should I worry?

Do you eat any pre workouts? Do you eat a lot of protein from animal sources, red meat etc?
Get your uric acid level and creatinine level checked.
Try drinking more most likely you are dehydrated. When your sweat starts to smell really strange often it is because the byproducts of your metabolism are not as diluted with water.
An additional thing that could be going wrong is insufficient carbohydrate intake. If you don't have enough glucose in your body, your body will break down itself using it's own protein as fuel, ammonia is necessary for it to complete the metabolic pathway from protein and fat to glucose that the body can use.
TLDR: if your sweat smells funny drink more eat more carbs

I notmally eat lunch about 4 hours before my workout.
I feel like I can't eat an additional meal before my workout as I'm trying to lose weight.
I drink about 2.5 to 3 liters of water per day, but I sweat excesivelly (due to being fat and doing 50 minutes of cardio)
Not sure if I should eat more protein or carbs now.
how'd you lose the weight anon? doing weight watchers atm but similar stats to you

I just eat less and do cardio a few times a week.
Also no more softdrinks and no eating between meals.
