It's never too early to start eating right. That "children shouldn't be on a diet" bullshit is what kept me obese through my childhood and early teens and more or less ruined my life. They're right though, children should not be on a "diet". They should, however, eat right.

14 year olds should not diet.

"Puppy fat" is essential, if you try and diet to be lean you will end up being a sickly manlet. Dieting is for postpubescents.

Regardless of what you eat, what you eat is your "diet". But that was kind of the point yeah. Just don't put children on stupid fad diets, including keto. Balanced macros and optimum amount of calories. Whole foods. Teach them how to cook. Teach them why it's not ok for them to overdose on soda and chips but let them have it anyway. And so on.

You should definitely start lifting. But I doubt anyone on /fit/ can give you good advice on how you should tailor your diet when you're in the middle of puberty.

Just make sure you eat enough and stop eating junk food/drinking soda and you should in pretty good shape.
