Sup /fit/, I'm a total DYEL, but I recently started working out (around a week ago) and I was wondering about how fast I should expect gains to come. How long did it take you guys to see visible gains in the mirror?
>inb4 read the sticky
>inb4 not gonna make it
>>
Been lifting for a year and a half. I havent seen any changes whatsoever but after a year my friends and others noticed "muh gains"
>>
>>37824407
For you to see changes in the mirror it will always be hard to tell since you see yourself every day. However, to others your body should be noticeably changing every 3-4 months if you're eating and lifting well.
>>
>>37824407
I was a skeleton warrior, did SS + GOMAD, I saw definite gains after 3 weeks, but I was the extreme case. If you're fat, it will take 4 weeks.

It largely depends on your diet.
>>
>>37824407
1 month for traps/triceps
After 7 weeks everything besides calves were noticeably bigger.
I'm 4 months in now and friends say "Holy shit" when they see me or hug me.
Gotta eat and sleep. If you're fat though, it will take much longer to see gains.

Been lofting 3 months or so, and it's very difficult to see gains on my body. What I do se however are the weights going up, in addition to clothes fitting differently.

For me, clothes fit much tighter around the manboob area as well as traps/back.

Think I ended up getting complimented by one of my regulars at work 2 months in, something about the size of my arms.

Just be sure to eat like a mofo and sleep like a snorlax.

Try to eat every 2 hours with a min of 20gs of proton, and BE IN BED 9 hours before you have to wake. You need to ensure you get a solid 8.
>>
>>37824535
>>37824666
Do you guys think that you can't really see any gains is because you've developed some kind of dysmorphia or that you literally haven't gotten any whatsoever? I know a lot of guys that have gotten tons of gains but still feel as small as they were in the beginning
>>
>>37824407
Don't expect to see any noticeable gains for a long time. Just focus on your stats.
>>
The paradox of gains

>As you lift you become better able to notice trained bodies
>Like an artisan you can see finer details of the craft that go unnoticed
>You recognize what trained pecs, triceps, or quads look like
>Your ability to discern rapidly outpaces your own growth
>Coupled with the fact that you see yourself every day-so the progress is hardly noticeable
>So you end up feeling like you've made almost no progress because your ability to criticize your own physique has outpaced your gains

About half a year into it levels off- but that's only if you had a good starting point and excellent programming/nutrition from the beginning
>>
>>37824602
Can already tell it smells like cheese, makes my mouth water.
>>
>>37824407

going on a year, noticing some changes myself (and lifts steadily going up) but nobody has commented in the slightest
>>
6-8 months to see noticeable gains for me.
>>
>>37824407
>after 3 months
if you are a fatty you will lose weight and notice that
>after 6 months
you will think are a big guy and pretend you know stuff on the internet and think you made it
>after 12 months
you realize you dont know shit and you are kinda content with your body but you realize you are still DYEL
>after 18 months
people tell you that you look good, big or whatever but you dont see it
>after 24 months
you realize you will never be as big/strong as you want to be and consider roiding. you look in the mirror and some days you feel like you made it when you are on a pump and have the right lighting other days it makes you depressed. you are at the point where you feel like you accomplished nothing and might as well have stayed fat forever because you will never truly make it without roids
>>
>>37824407
My lifts increased immediately but i didn't notice changes to my body until like a month, and even then they weren't dramatic. I was on a cut though.

Get myfitnesspal, the progress pics are how I really noticed shit was improving from an aesthetic standpoint.

Also, read sticky cuz you're not gonna make it.

3 months in, I see gains that motivate me to keep going. When I started my chest was flat, now I have some pecs that are visible in a shirt. My whole body just looks better, less like a nolife teenager that I used to be and more like a young man. Also if you just enjoy the ride and your gains instead of obsessing how you look compared to other people and generally being insecure you wont develop the body dysmorphia and perpetual unhappiness that most of this board has. Ive gained 8 kg in 3 months, some of it fat, some water and some muscle. I look better then ever before, Im stronger then ever before and I feel proud over it eventhough by /fit/ standards Im probably a dyel wholl never make it.
>>
>>37826140
As someone that jumped on gear after 2.5 years of lifting, this is completely accurate.
Just to note, gear makes you feel huge and magical and unlimited gains for the first year then diminishing returns occurs and by year 3 you have extreme body dysmorphia.
Good luck.
>>
>>37826445
thanks for the advice, I might go down the same path as you. currently lifting a bit more than 2 years and like I said I consider roiding atm. I have a question though, if you were in my place would you go down the same route again or stay natty ?

>>
>>37824942
This is why you take progress pics every week/month or somewhere in the middle
>>
>>37824845
I think it's because you see yourself in the mirror every single day and so any progression is lost on you. When I began losing weight people who'd not seen me in ages would look at me with a slightly awed expression and compliment me, but I never, ever, felt like I was making any progress.

It wasn't until I looked at an old photo I noticed.

So yeah I think part of it is that and part of it is dysmorphia. Probably the latter for most of /fit/.
>>
>>37826589
now spread the word!
>>
>>37824407
After one month of going 4x a week you will notice gainz. After 3 months, other people will start noticing
>>
>>37826596

Lad youre only 3 months in , lets see how you feel when you're past noob gains
>>
>>37828329
How long til noob gains stop?
>>
>>37828356
It stops approx. 6 months to 1 year after beginning.
>>
>>37828365
What if i havent lifted in a few years but still have some decent muscle mass? Can i retap the noob gains?
>>
>>37828436
You'll regain the mass you lost during your break very fast, but that will be because of muscle memory and not because of noobgains. If you previously trained for like 6 months to 1 year then you can be pretty sure that you've "depleted" your noobgains.
>>
>>37826140
This is pretty accurate although I decided against the roids route, largely because it was never my intention to compete and eventually I was confident with my body regardless of how my insecure mind saw it in the mirror on a particular day.

My actual answer to the OP would be: it depends because of routine, diet, your current physical state (fat/average/underweight etc). I did some variation of SS/SL as my first routine and the first thing that exploded was my legs, literally in the first few months. Arms lagged behind but eventually caught up as I hit 2pl8/1PL8 Bench/OHP for working sets after the 6month+ mark.

There is a reason most humans look like shit, they give up. My advice would be to ignore the mirror as much as possible for the first 6 months, hell 1year of lifting, and just look at your numbers. It'll all fit into place.
>>
>>37826535
>>37826445
Why would you juice? You lose it all after you finish cycle
>>
>>37828526
Why is there a term called "noob gains" which basically refers to how easy it is to gain muscle early on, yet you say people should ignore the mirror the first year? It doesn't make any sense, you're basically discussing bodybuilding like it's some kind of rocket science.
>>
>>37824535
Same, even when i go trough my progress pics I dont see a dofference but friends are going crazy about it
>>
>>37824626
A+ keep it up I know dis feelingiolini
>>
>>37824407
Who's this semen demon?
>>
>>37828780
I always advise people to do that because people have this stupid expectation that they'll be jacked within the first year of lifting. Unless you're prepared to roid the shit out of your body, that just does not happen. "Noob gains" as you call it, generally refers to how quickly your lifting numbers improve. As per my original post, I didn't really start to see some serious significant gains in my upper body until my strength hit a respectable level.
>>
>>37830350
and by gains I meant really noticeable size increase that made me stand out more than a guy with just a pump.
>>
>>37828729
>cycling
>not cruising forever
>>
>>37824407
I put on 13lbs of muscle in three first six months but now I've been training for a few years is more like 12lbs in a whole year.
>>
>>37824407
Two or three weeks, but I was very athletic and built when I was younger so it came way faster than most seem to. I was accused of roids after week 5.
>>
>>37824407
3 months if your diet and program is in check (see sticky).
don't stare yourself in the mirror every day for an hour like a narcissistic cunt and you'll notice it.

Took me 6 months to learn to control my diet and lose 50 pounds.

Then I started doing calisthenics only. 3 months later and I'm quite happy with the results. Still got a long way to go though, but when you've been a chubster your whole life, it feels great to see those changes.

I lost some of my abs because I need to get flooring (I used to have more when I could train at my muay thai classes) but there we go:

For Push-ups/anything else progression, look up convict conditionning.
30 mins of jumping ropes every 2 days (monday, wednesday and friday, fuck week-ends)
100 abs rep (1 set of 50 crunches (that's why I can't do it at the moment, getting some flooring friday after some months), 1 set of 25 leg raises and 1 set of touch toes sit ups (pull your legs against the wall for that).

That picture is actually a month and a half old or so, I was still fresh from the Muay Thai classes and even though I gained more biceps, traps and pecs from convict conditionning, I lost a fair deal of abs from the lack of "equipment" and cardio. Luckily after 2 months of being broke I can now afford proper flooring and a better jumping rope.

Other sound advice I can give, if you get used to jumping rope, build yourself a jumping rope with a tube of pvc like pic related (Just grabbed it off google, so don't mind the text), it'll be a fucking killer for your shoulders and forearms.
>>
>>37830817
fucked it up: The 100 abs reps is every 2 days too, convict conditionning is every 2 days AT LEAST. I just put up my pull up bar on my doorframe when I get back to work and always do some reps whenever too.

4 months in.

Last week I couldn't do the top button up on a dress shirt and another dress shirt doesn't fit anymore at all.

An old female friend from school commented that I had put on size.

My best friend's mum commented that I put on size.

An old friend I hadn't seen since I started lifting asked how I increased my arm sizero so quickly.

I don't really notice a remarkable change until I wear clothes. All my old clothes were fairly loose fitting because I was skinny but now they're tight.
>>
Starting as a skelly I saw results come in REALLY fast. Like people were commenting on it within a couple weeks. I suppose genetics plays a part as well.
