It's probably all the chemicals in them. I used to get insane protein farts from that Gold Standard Whey. I swithced to an organic protein supplement with only two ingredients: whey protein and sunflower lecithin. No problems anymore.

If your body would build even 20g of muscle protein every day (notice that muscle cells itself are 80% water and 20% protein) you would gain 100g bodymass every day.

That would be 36,5kg of lean bodymass in a year.
So if you want to build 10kg of LBM (2kg protein and 8kg water) in a year you need to eat an additional 5,7g of protein every day.

Now that 0,8g per Kg of bodyweight are recommended for the basic body functions, consuming 1g/Kg BW is more than enough to build muscle.
