Need your help /fit/ specifically people who run.

So last Saturday my left knee started to hurt early in my run but I just ignored it. However the next day it hurt a lot. The pain is located right below my knee cap usually where the doctor checks your reflexes. The pain is strongest when I get up in the morning(not sure why). I was looking it up and it might be runners knee but I think I might have pulled it. Anyone know what it is? Or how long it will take to heal? I even hurts to walk sometimes....

I'm in a very similar situation now. My knee just started hurting one day, especially when bending and applying weight to just that one knee. Walking down stairs is when it hurts worst.

I ignored it for a week, then got pissed that I couldn't run anymore, so I saw a doctor who checked ligaments, took an x-ray, and eventually gave me a cortisone shot and said everything was fine.

It didn't get any better and I became convinced I'd torn the meniscus, so I went to a specialist. They gave me a brace and took an MRI. When I went back I was told that basically everything was fine and that I probably just inflamed the cartilage somehow.

The doctor said that those types of injuries can take months to heal. The only advice I got was to rest it, keep it elevated, use some sort of compression on it, and ice it.

That's not really practical for me and icing only helps temporarily, but aleve is really effective. Try doing that stuff, though; if you've just inflamed some tissue, it might heal faster.

Had it for a while as well. I just stretched my quads well and made sure to move my knee regularly. Gave it a bit of rest and it cleared up (2 weeks no running). Stretching in general is pretty important, especially when you run a lot.

My hammies were too strong as well, in comparison with my quads. I exceeded the 3:4 ratio for hamstrings/quads, which gave too much passive stress on the joint. Fixed that by replacing the stiff legged deadlift with a regular deadlift and by replacing my lunges with short steps instead of long ones.

College short/long sprint/hurdler during fall conditioning and pre season we have longer practices and a common cause on our team for pain on the outside of the knee (around where middle to ring finger of right hand in pic) is caused by the IT band being tight ( it feels like burning or some one pulling with pliers from inside your leg) or it could be from quad dominance in legs just two guesses by info given

It takes about two to three weeks (one at best) with foam rolling and stretching twice a day to go away. For now don't over do stretching (it takes time to gain flexibility) but do it constantly.

It sure is the IT band syndrome, had that excruciating pain for days, take some days off from running and at home do one leg squats with the affected leg, take wall's support while doing that, don't go to deep, it will pain a lot but it'll work. After the cure run on soft surfaces like ground or grass avoid running on hard concrete roads and paths

Or you can get on a stair step and try stepping down from it with weight on the affected leg, repeat 10-15 times
