How do I do dips without hurting myself, /fit/?

Every time I do a set it just doesn't feel right. I keep my shoulders back, arms down, chest out but still end up feeling sore around my shoulders and collarbone.

I'm going to bump this because I've always felt on the verge of injury no matter how I do dips.

Stretch more
>>
Needs more muscle. Engage all of your muscles so that you are not bending in an unnatural way.
>>
Should elbows flair out, or keep em tucked
>>
trying to work shoulders? keep your chest upright

trying to work chest? lean forward

trying not to be a faggot? kill urself fag0t
>>
retract your scapula as you get into the starting position. helped me dip without pain
>>
grip the bar tighter. squeeze that shit. Keep your fore arms perpendicular to the bar and keep your wrists straight. Probably not your problem but ive seen a lot of people fuck this step up.
>>
I do some assisted dips to warm up. It's all snap crackle pop if I go right in.

Check it. Pretty interesting read, helped me out with dips.

TL;DR
>pack the shoulders
>keep core hollow, spine tall
>hinge at the hips (ie, stick you legs out in front of you, but don't round your back)
>your dip position is the same as a rowing position, it's just a press instead of a pull

>random guy asks me if i can help him squeeze out two more reps by helping a little
>his sternum audibly pops
>whole weightroom is looking
>he never did dips again

Flare out your elbows to target your pecs. Use a wide grip for these.

Keep elbows tucked to target your triceps. Use a shoulder width grip for these.

that was very helpful (srs)

Because that's not a problem for the shoulders at all.

Keeping elbows tucked was my solution for shoulder pain from dips.

this is my fear

Doesn't matter, but don't let your shoulderblades tilt anteriorly too much.
so don't let the top of your upper arm bone come forward too much.
