I'm a former collegiate cross country/track runner. 3:55 1500m, 14:51 5k. Used to do plenty of 100+ mile weeks. I know some stuff about running.

After getting to the point where you can run for 30 minutes straight you shouldn't go back to doing splits of ten minutes

It makes more sense to do smaller runs and 1-2 long runs, so breaking things up over the week not in one session.
