>be 260 pounds
>do a push-up
>go to the gym and attempt a 260 pound bench
>fail miserably since I attempted with no spotter, look like an idiot in front of the whole gym
Why did you lie to me /fit/?
>>36664927
whew autism
Who told you that doing a pushup was the same as benching your bodyweight lol
>>36664927
I want to believe
>>36664927
I could do probably 50 pushups before I could actually bench 1pl8, which was around my bodyweight at the time I started lifting
did you atleast wear sandals?
>>36664927
Doing a pushup is approximately 40% of your bodyweight. Your legs support themselves, and your torsos weight is semi-evenly distributed between your arms and legs.
Think about it, it's a fucking lever. Is it easier to open a crate with your bare fingers or with a crowbar?

Nah man. Someone with autism would have a much better grasp of basic physics.

lel
>>36665055
For real though. It's obvious that a huge portion of body weight is supported by the feet during a push-up.
OP must be of diminished capacity.

Wish you weightloss faggots would go back to /fitness. You already chased all the fit people off there and turned it into weight loss, now you're doing the same shit here. Fuck off
>>36664927
i wish this happened. sadly, it never did
>/fit/ tells me to do bodyweight squats
>go to gym
>try 180lbs 5x5
>end up in hospital
fuck you /fit/
A push-up isn't your entire bodyweight.
For example, I weigh 170 and do push-ups with a 40 lb backpack. I can bench press 200 once.
>>36664927
Clearly you've never taken a highschool physics course.
>>36664927
Problem was you were doing the incorrect kind of bench.
For a first timer here's what you do.
Load up roughly 1.5x your body weight (it sets the bench mark for your strength to grow from there).
Secondly your grip, you need to do it with just your four fingers, no thumb involved, that'll massively increase your grip strength.
Thirdly and most important is the movement, don't bring it down to your sternum, bring it down towards your collar bone (between your collar bone and adams apple is the most optimal range of motion). That will blast every part of your chest and help you with a more even pec insertion.
The pros do it like this OP, good luck next time, tell me how it turns out.

So close to septuplets of truth
>you need to do it with just your four fingers, no thumb involved
this is crucial
>>36666556

>Doing a pushup is approximately 40% of your bodyweight
More like 60-70%.

Did you remember to wear your sandals?
