Let's talk about mental fitness
It's a really sunny day here and for some reason I just got the feeling that exercise, nutrition, work, and education are just ways to maintain a sustained suspension of reality, which is depression.
Going to the gym has helped keep the depression at bay, but I don't feel like I've had any legitimate feelings until the depression hit today.
How does /fit/ deal with stuff like this?
Meditation?
CBT?
Drugs?
What is reality?

just got dumped by gf of 5 years. meditation and weightlifting are currently keeping me sane. If you have not tried meditation I highly recommend it.

I agree with you, anon. Meditation in post-lifting bliss is out.of.this.world.jpeg.
Good luck building yourself up. You'll make it.
Look at this quote
Your body is not designed to sit still and brood about things. When you brood about things. You naturally become depressed and moody. When you find yourself just spacing out and brooding, you need to catch yourself and start doing something productive like reading a book, cleaning the house, cooking, talking to friends etc.
As you do this, the sad thoughts will go away.
meditation can recommend for milder symptoms. I have to put in at least 20-30 minutes before I feel at peace and less twisted up inside.
Even after going on a run today i still felt down. Sitting quietly until I loosened up internally helped.
Coffee can be one hell of a crutch for those other days.

>implying meditation is sitting still and brooding about thing
Here is a dangerously simplified explanation: You don't brood on the thoughts, you choose a point of focus such as your breath or the sound of something.
You maintain awareness of the thoughts without falling into and become enveloped by the thoughts.

>brooding
the whole point of meditation is to clear your mind mong

>Implying I said meditation is bad
Meditation is doing something active so it doesn't count as brooding. I personally think its a load of psuedo science bullshit but it makes people happy so I don't care.
What OP is doing is brooding. He's just sitting in a corner of room, thinking life is pointless and sulking like a little bitch. This is what happens when you isolate yourself and don't stimulate your mind.
Anon its all about action and what you are doing and thinking.
Example, normally you feel shit if you are sitting around doing nothing. If you do a task or action it is diminished.
Meditation is good, but it is like exercise you need to practice and keep it up,
Comedies and Laughter go without saying are really useful.
Finally socialising is brilliant because you feed off who you hang with. careful who you hang with.

Unless you're an introvert and social interaction drains you. Some of us feed of solitude to be able to stand others, senpai.

Go through Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
If that doesn't work and your depression is ultra severe, you may need to try ECT

"psuedo science bullshit"
There are multiple peer-reviewed studies showing its effectiveness at reducing mild depression and improving attention as well as executive functioning. These studies include brain scans and fMRI

"lifting" and bodybuilding in all forms is a psuedo science bullshit.

When I read your OP I imagined a photo of the perfect person smiling and impliying life it's only about stability and doing what you've been told to do since you were a kid.
Man, look for the things that really get you motivated, do whatever makes you feel alive. Pursue a "dream", a goal. Start recollecting memories if you have to, because those things are there, inside you.
Stop worrying about the perfect life you need to live because that shit ain't gonna get you through the journey, it's just a facade, a false pretext, and if you get too much into it you'll turn into a gear, unable to do/feel shit on your own.
Start worrying about YOU, as a human being, about your needs, your hobbies, your feelings, associations, fears.
