Holy fuck I'm sick of you newfags with these fucking retarted questions just fucking Google it mate.
Whey is a good source of protein just like fucking fish and chicken. If u want more protein, fucking get it. You don't need it, but it's an easy way to meet your protein goals at the end of the day.

this.
Useless. It's been proven to start MPS, but protein from whole foods is always better. If you are tracking your macros consider this. You only need 0.4 g per kg of body weight to maintain muscle. 1g per kg if you are doing intense lifting.
Whey is food. It's not something magical. You take it if you need more protein in your diet but can't be bothered to drink milk instead.
Supplements are not a necessity, a good diet is the real thing you need. Only after you have a good nutrition plan is when you should worry about supplements.

Whey is basically for truckers and people that work 14 hours a day and don't have any time to eat. Real food will always be better than protein powder. Rich Piana and Jason Blaha will agree with me on this. The people that disagree were most certainly brainwashed by the supplement industry and think it's a ''must have'' supplement. I've used whey for 5 years and been off way for 2 years. My gains are the same (or better) and my skin looks better since dairy at all in my diet. Dairies are pretty much garbage
