Not every athlete has the same needs.

Ideally the cleans would give enough stimulus, but if you're really lacking in back musculature, then cleans won't help as much as learning to properly row and build muscle.

You just need to learn to brace better. Once I learned how to breath deep and compact it in there it improved literally all three of my lifts 10fold.

When you brace you want to feel is literally in your lower back. Take in a huge breath of air, shove it as far down as it will go, then use your core like a garbage compactor and crush and pressurize the air in your core and hold it throughout the entire movement.

Nah, it's perfectly fine. Filling up your abdomen and bracing hard is a natural protection mechanism to stabilize your core and to transfer force.

Most research shows that the belt will not weaken your core (via atrophy).

In some studies, a belt increases abdominal activation.

Most people do a combo of belted and beltless work. A belt almost never hurts, as long as you don't expect it to brace FOR you.

okay, what would be the best route to increase my total. i don't want to spin my wheels. i want to waste no time doing a program that may injure me or cause me to regress. should i just go to powerliftingtowin.com and follow his advice? i said earlier there's a lot of bullshit and i want to do things like you guys did. how did you start? greentext it if you want. i just want to learn the right way. i have tried and don't want to just mindlessly add weight to bar just like i i was bb'ing i wouldn't want to just grab a dumbbell and curl it a thousand times.

the joke is that i've been told to do ss and that's clearly not even close to getting coaching. i know enough to know it's the wrong answer if i want to do powerlifting the right way. i want to be specfic about my training and start a routine. which is literally as specific as it gets to powerlifting.

i've spent time under the bar, just have never done a routine. 350/215x3/405 in 8 months, got injured because after i tripled, doubled, and singled my way up until i hit those numbers. i got injured being stupid and not caring enough about programming, form, recovery, etc and am now injury free, and feeling great. just wanted input. best to do a begginer program, probably, but i haven't found anything on google about my specific question. i'd rather ask dumb questions than continue doing what i did before. it wasn't working. a program would suit me so i will look into the ones that were posted. if anyone has any other good programs or links it would be helpful.

Good luck, mate. Start looking into your local powerlifting federations and maybe think about signing up for a meet! Be sure to read the rulebook a few times, squat depth, bench cues, and equipment rules all vary from fed to fed.

thanks for the link. my biceps got really bad, every first rep on bench the descent felt like my biceps were ripping apart. it's good now and starting back up i'm only doing paused reps and it's really helped me control my bench and add a lot of power.
