Deadlift and squats literaly save my spine from permanent complications from a slipped disc 1.5 year ago. I'm so fucking glad I don't have back pain anymore thanks to the muscles built around my spine.

This. I lived in a lot of pain from a bad case of juvenile kyphosis until I was 20 and started lifting.

Squats, deadlifts, and losing weight have given me a reasonably pain free existence. Fucking do them.

Tight/short hamstrings can place strain on the lower back in these movements. Stretch your hammies frequently. Also, the other posters comments about strengthening your abs is a great suggestion. A strong core is not to be overlooked.
