I forget the technical name, but my rotator cuff is all fucked up and there's not a whole lot I can do about it.

Same, but also a bulging disc at L4-L5, My sciatic pain is also in my left leg

I would use surgery as a last resort, I know the constant pain sucks but after they cut a piece out of you, you're never going to be the way you were before.

>>35188584
Nope, Andrew
>>
>>35188603
Didn't see the waiting for surgery part. My brother has the same thing, he had a discectomy (where they shave the bulging parts of the disc down) took the leg pain from an 8/10 to 2/10 almost immediately. Took about 4 - 6 weeks of complete rest but doing better now.
>>
>>35188507
I fucking hate when this happens.
>>
>>35188621

I've been dealing with this for a little over a year now, I was doing really good a few months ago and didn't need to take any pills. But then I had a relapse so bad I seriously wanted to kill myself. I am finally stable again now, but I need to take my meds.

Also I can't sit, driving anywhere is unbearable no matter how many pain killers I take.
>>
>>35188628

YES, that is exactly the procedure that I am trying to get. They doctor is hesitant because he is worried about scar tissue forming and making the sciatica permanent.
>>
>>35188655
Shitty deal bro, I guess I was lucky enough to have most of my mobility back after a year, still can't sit upright with legs fully extended, touch toes, any kinda stuff like that but at least I can drive
>>
Torn bicep tendon, torn LCL 4 times, torn PCL twice, herniated/ruptured cervical spine C5-C7.
>>
>>35188680
Get a second and third opinion. My bro went to a few before finding his specialist. Everyone said he was the best for the procedure but most importantly the doctor didn't deny it. He was confident in his own work.
>>
>>35188688

what are doing and what have you done for improvements?

I've done physio, got some stretches to open up my hips. Also acupuncture, which helped loosen up tight muscles.

My doctors refuse to send me to a chiropractor or give me epidural injections.
>>
>>35188722

yeah, it kinda scares me that my doctor is unsure of himself.

Thanks for the info man, I really appreciate it.
>>
>>35188715

jesus, how are you still alive?
>>
>>35188775
np
FYI he also tried epidural injections first, but only got a few days relief.
Good luck.
>>
>>35188756
I've been going to physio twice a week for the first three months, then a specialist once a week for two months and then just a bi-monthly check up with specialist. Physio stretches three times a day, when you wake up, when you get home, before you go to sleep. My back feels a lot better now but my hip also got fucked, so now I'm mostly working on that and stretching out my hamstrings while continuing work on my back.

Look into something called Somatics or Somatology. I could send you a bunch of the handouts I've been using for my exercises if you want as well.

I found that with physio I only felt better for maybe a few hours afterward but I swear by this stuff, literally got me off of painkillers in two months.

worst injury is probably torn ACL which got reconstructed.
since then some pretty bad lower back spasms which i was certain were herniated disks, back pain so bad i couldnt stand up or get out of bed.
im certain it was from catbacking diddlylifts and not training abs/lower back.

Let's see

Threw my back out twice (still did body weight exercises the second time)
Broke a toe
Got turf toe which lasted over a month because I kept jumping rope
And various pains to my knees, my left groin, and my shoulders

I know it's retarded but I usually keep working out through the injury/pain

I don't get how I threw out my back though, neither time was doing strenuous shit (one was sitting down on a chair) and I'm in my early 20s

Okay, a little more detail about the exercises

>>35189141
I usually warm up with this one, try and do this as relaxed as you can until your muscles kick in to complete the motion, even then try to do it with as little exertion as you can, it prevents your muscles from protectively clenching and allows you to really stretch your spine. Hearing pops is normal, don't worry.

>>35189158
This is more about pushing your knee as far away from your torso as you can, stretching the spine. make sure you breathe with every exercise and roll your head in the opposite direction of the arch or your back.

>>35189187
Pretty standard, it's about rotation in the hip and lengthening your side

>>35189207
I forgot about this one to be honest, gonna have to start throwing it into rotation again

>>35189216
Nothing to say about this

>>35189248
Lots of pops from this one when I first started doing it, nothing anymore though.

>>35189268

>>35189283

I feel your pain, albeit less since enough time has passed and my disc wasn't so badly injured. Now only occasionally feel discomfort.

Chiropractor for adjustments again tomorrow and back under the bar with significantly less weight than the time the message from my brain to my knees got misinterpreted as "forward" at the bottom of a 400 lbs squat.

Strained Hip Flexor - 6 Months to Heal

Strained Deep Shoulder muscle -
Wasn't a rotator cuff, think it was a deep muscle. Some days it felt like shoulder, other felt like pec minor, other days felt like top of the trap - 6-7 months heal time.

Strained Elbow flexor - 5 weeks into it and still no sign of improvement. Stretching daily.

Herniated disc at L4-L5. Had surgery to repair it 5 years ago, it's pretty good these days, still doing exercises to strengthen my core and prevent it happening again. If any people here are having problems with herniated discs and feel like surgery is your only option look up the Wallis Implant, it's what I got. It's a spacer that will relieve the pressure and is completely reversible, it's a far more palatable option than fusion but I hardly ever see it brought up.

>knees sometimes feel yucky

Is your bed big enough? My left knee used to feel like shit all the time. I even had my doctor look at it, and he said there was nothing wrong.

Eventually while looking through the mobilityWOD stuff, I came across his sleeping tips, and he spent some time talking about whether or not your bed is the right size/hardness for you. Turns out my bed wasn't big enough, I got one, and my knee has been 100% since.

Completely tore a tendon in my wrist. Awaiting surgery.

In the past I've:
Rolled both ankles, different times, numerous occasions.
Pinched a nerve in my hand on an overhead press. Took a few weeks to heal. Pins/needles/numbness on thumb fore and middle fingers and up my forearm to the elbow.
Mild MCL tear when a dude fell on my leg from the side at a concert. Was fine til I got home. Next morning my knee was massive and I couldn't bend it. Trying to walk the joint felt loose. Took about 2 months of PT to fix. No surgery.
Almost fucked my back up on a squat when was still doing crossfit. Still not sure what happened it was only about 225, pre class warm up, but I got a knife pain in the middle of my back and let the weight drop.
>>
Wow, you guys make me feel lucky.
My lower back, particularly the left side always usually has a dull pain, it comes a goes. Nothing that inhibits me just starts bothering me after sitting down for too long in the same position(long drives/lectures).
I think it's from the manual labor I've done the past few summers. Lots of throwing shovels and lifting.
Other than that I fucked my bicep head up at the beginning of this past summer. Hurt to squat/pullup/ohp. Finally that got better.
Not really an injury but this past year I've had to sit out for weeks from lifting due to wisdom teeth, and getting super sick twice for over a week.
Most recently I tried to jump back into the gym after being sick and didn't warm up right and pulled a muscle in my knee w/ 135 squats.

I'm not even lifting that heavy or have had many injuries so I gotta be thankful.
Could always be a lot worse.

>tfw multiple friends my age athletic and not tear A/M/PCL's

>IT Band Syndrome

A couple of years ago i got it for the first time due to too much football (soccer) practice on hard ground. Pain went from 'barely noticeable' to 'i can't walk anymore without tears in my eyes' an back for several years. I've gone to all kinds doctors with x-ray, mrt and everything... None of these idiots was able to find the reason for the pain i had.

Spring this year, when the pain came back once again, i had the opportunity to get a check up from the team-doc of a semi-professional football club from our area. Two or three days before my appointment i found a thread here on /fit/ about the 'IT Band Syndrome' where OPs description perfectly matched the problems i had for years.

I decided not to tell the doc anything about the things i read online and, as it turns out, he didn't even need anything: 5 Minutes in he said "Yep, looks like IT Band Syndrome" told me to get a pair of insoles made for my football, lifting and running shoes and showed me couple of stretching excercises to do.

I've been pain free ever since.

I have this but i think its just a severe bulge. Docs say its time for surgery. The surgery is "cut out some of the bone and disc in your spine lol". They claim 90% success without complications, but in all the journals I've read success is defined as no pain in two years. There's very few studies that had follow-ups at five or even ten years. At the ten year horizon, success dropped to 30%.

Mfw i'm only 23 and dont want back surgery every ten years for the rest of my life.

SCIATIA BROS CHECK THIS OUT

okay so the blue thing is an inversion table called teeter-hang-ups. Name is dumb as fuck, but whatever. On the floor is a board to winch myself down to. I'm down to basically 0 pain (though I avoid sitting, bending, and lifting).

Here's what I do: hang on the table for 5 min, then do 3 sets of 15 pushups where my hipbones never leave the ground (with help from the winch). I do this every day 3x a day.

I have no life but i have no pain

Everytime I see "injury", "scars", or something similar on /fit/, I have to post.

Little trivia fact: Did you know, since there's still some shrapnel in my body, I'm bit magnetic on those parts? With titanium knee I have, that pretty much makes me a cyborg, what do you think?
And I'm not talking about big metal pieces, by the way, it's just small particles surgeons couldn't/didn't bother to pick up.

(Also, for people I promised badges: Still looking for them, but I'm afraid my ex took them, what a cunt. I'll continue looking nonetheless.)

>They gave us money, about 7000 euro each (About 7-8K USD, I think?)
>We didn't even do shit, but whatever, don't take free money
>The CO was telling jokes all the time on the ride to the zone, saying things like "we will set their demon dicks on fire"

Didn't have a surgery, but got my shoulder dislocated as a teen.
It kept popping out, but now it happens rarely. I strengthened my shoulders and my arms quite a bit, and I think that's what helped me. Start with lower weights, until you get more strength in your arms. Gradually work your way up to no-popping zone.
Hope I helped at least a little bit. But I didn't have it that bad, if I'm being honest.
You should still get an advice from your doctor. Not from people on /fit/
>>
>>35195765
go to physio, listen to them. don't be lazy with the corrective exercises they tell you to do. tell them you are a competitive weightlifter or something and they'll take you more seriously.

i can't say i'm familiar with what happened to you, but being weak on an anrea you have had surgery from is very common and usually very treatable. consider incorporating a lot of mobility work for it as i am assuming it is fairly inflexible now and look for ways to work it back to how it was before.

you can either throw in the towel or get back on the horse. yes, getting injured sucks a bag of dicks but it's not the end of your lifting career. many athletes have had multiple surgeries and still perform well, including many bodybuilders (coleman had many knee surgeries and yates learned to live with his shoulder injury).

be patient, keep your chin up, prepare for a hard time. but you can get through it.
>>

I did man. He said I can start lifting in 6 week.s

But my shoulder stil feels weird, i just got out of shower and I (retardedly) put my arm into my hsirt too suddenly and my shoulder felt like it almost dislocated again.

>>35195853
Thanks man I do go to physio but I'm in Canada and it feels like they're really lazy here tbqh.

I'm just really pissed off because this shit keeps happening to me everytime in the WORST TIMES.

>Got a new job
>HEHEHE shoulder dislocates

>OK no big deal I'll recover
>Start lifting again, trying to get healthy
>NOPE SHOULDER DISLOCATES AGAIN

>Ok ill recover again, do a bunch of pushups to check stability before doing anything
>OK did 15 pushups full ROM no pain no nothing
>go to lake
>try swimming
>NOPE SHOULDER DISLOCATES AGAIN

And now that I did my surgery finally after waiting so long it still hurts and feels pretty unstable even though it's not suppose to. Literally feels like it could dislocate at any moment.

It's been 2 months since surgery now too so it's not like it's recent.

I think I might just kill myself if it dislocates again when i begin lifting in a month. Fucking hate this shit why does it have to keep happening to me,i didnt do anything wrong why is god punishing me?

Did you have any previous military experience before becoming a merc?
>>
>>35189088
Posing in the mirror.
>>
>>35196034
I mean, that's nothing.
I was send to a not-really-legal military camp when I was 13, by my father, because of some shit that went down in my life.
That's my pre-mercenary experience. Just a ton of abuse as a child, trained to be a soldier. Took me two years to get from the camp, from then on I became a mercenary, since they pretty much made one, in that camp. I was there with few other kids as well. Some were homeless kids from streets, some were kids of prominent people, (had a close female friend that was a daughter of a head of a mob), some were unfortunate kids like me.
They trained us with one idea in mind, and that was for us to skip our childhood and become a killer at young age.
They did it with about 40 kids total, if I remember correctly.
Have a convenient greentext, that I'll post in a second. Just a small example of what happened in there.
>>
>>35196034
>>35196141
>At the time, I was several months in the camp
>I hated it from the start
>I can't even remember how many times I puked from exhaustion, when they made us run with weights on our backs
>Food wasn't really good, main reason was that they had to cut back on the budget a bit
>What they told us is, that the taste isn't important
>Which they said, when every other day they were grilling meat, just for them, not for us
>After few months I can tell we got way tougher, even though I still felt like a brat
>Being in an enviroment where everybody is either taller, stronger, better at everything, makes you feel that
>We were woken up one day, by an rather happy looking instructor
>Who basically told us where are we going to spend next few days
>Those were hell
At this point, I would like to pinpoint the luxury we had
-clothes
-one pair of boots
-bed
-bucket
>They took it all away from us
>Throw us into small room (more like a cellar, since it was underground)
>This is where we live now
>Small room filled with pig intestines, blood and hair
>And a bunch of bugs, don't forget the bugs
>There was about six of us in that hole
>First few minutes I was dry-heaving, just because of the smell
>There was a bit of dry space with hay on top
>That's where we ate and slept
>Quite an unreal experience (for us), which was made to strenghten us
>Luckily we only had to spend three or four days in there

After we got out, I may have been the most thankful person on the earth. Every little thing seemed like a miracle.
One kid actually cut his foot open, on a bone back then. Got infection, and had to have a good portion of his leg cut out. Fortunately, he survived.

That's insane man. Like what you seen in a movie.
My backup plan is to join the French foreign legion if I fail out of school.
>>
I don't know if this counts, but about 10 years ago I broke my leg, and the walking cast I was put in caused my foot to turn more outward. Adjusting my leg so the foot points more forward starts to have my knee turn inward which doesn't feel right, so I've just dealt with it.

I've always wondered if it affects my squats and deads

Well, as understood, you didn't get a monthly salary, but you rather got payed by a job.

Not really worth it imo.

You can make more and more reliably in a lot of jobs.
>>
>>35196320
I guess, but if you would count all the days I worked a year, it would be less than half a month.

Unless you are some corporate shark, working 15 days a year and making +- 100,000 EUR, isn't really possible.
But it's not work cut out for everyone, plus, there's high risk of dying.
I get your point.

>>35196352
>I guess, but if you would count all the days I worked a year, it would be less than half a month.

Oh really? I thoguht it would be a lot more time worked. Ok that's a good amount then.

I was getting more at a lot of Finance jobs in the US can easily make a lot more than that if you're an associate or higher at a firm, and you're not risking your life lol.

Torn meniscus, right knee, lateral, anterior horn.

It was minor enough that I didn't need surgery, and physical therapy fixed me up pretty good, but early in the fall I slipped and fell while running and landed on the same knee. Doctors don't think I damaged it any further, but the inflammation really got to it. Had to do a cortisone cycle among other things.

There's also difference what you get for normal work where I live.

Oh right that's true. Who would've thought killing people would be so profitable though.

Damn now that I think about it, the people making $100k/yr+ in Eastern Europe are living like literal kings, even better than in the US.

You wouldn't believe how cheap some shit in here is.
I can buy pretty good food for maybe 30 EUR a week. So imagine what I had.
I mostly spent it on guns, import bikes, and expensive vacations.
I also started my own PMC, that costed me quite a lot of money.

Now I live a life of a simpleton, and I don't mind.
You've got to try all kinds of life. Now I have to count money to have food for whole month, but again, it doesn't really bother me.

Slovakia is still considered Middle Europe, but.. Not really.
If you have good connections, then your life is easy for you.
If you don't, you will struggle for every penny.
For example, my ex's father was close friends with our Prime Minister, so I got to go to few fancy weddings and shit.

And who payed me? From what I can remember:
State PMC's
Guy who worked for South Africa goverment
Mob bosses in Thailand and Indonesia
Actual governments, but never officially (mostly Eastern European ones)
Rich guys who wanted to show off their power
And plenty more

Once we got payed by Special Operations to simulate training with their trainees. Was fun.
We went for a drink afterwards.

About 250,000 EUR overall? I'm not sure, since it fluctuated.
And how does a mercenary go bankrupt. Good question, here's a manual.
1. Invest all the money you have into buying supplies, and paying off soldiers in the PMC you created
2. Get ratted out by your friends and comrades, that sent you to a mission that you were supposed to die in.
3. Get a Slovakian equivalent of DEA to go after your money when you didn't die. Option was either to send me to jail until my peenor rots off, or to transfer all my remaining money to few bank accounts.
Guess which one I did I choose.
Gotta love corruption.

Biggest regret? I should've manage my finances better.

Still looking for them.
I'm not that convinced my ex took them, but they were in a shoe box, with spare mags, some ammo, and other cool shit. And I can't find the damn shoe box.
Ex is the only person that could've took it, since she lived with me for some time.

When I'll find them, I'll gladly give them away though, since I don't need them

all these herniated disc problems...

fuck man, I dont even DL that match, and make sure I check my lower back in a side mirror for any rounding on at least a few reps every DL session.

now im gonna be even more paranoid after this thread. What do to strengthen lower back even more, and prevent rounding at higher weights?

I still may get back to it one day.

I lost my legs to a rabid cow so Im a curl bro by default

Getting laid isnt as hard as youd think. Theres a surprising amount of cute 7 and 8/10s who dig paraplegics. The sad part is Ive only had one real relationship since then. The rest have been fuck buddies who only see me as a way to fulfill their fetish
>>
>ITBS left hip.

Pretty sure it stems from just about 1 year ago now. Haven't ran or done any impact on it for months now

The whole leg is suffering and I can feel the difference as I started trying squatting again last week.

Recommended hip exercises aren't fixing the feeling..

Although I don't have it as bad as you, my right is fucked up quite nicely, so I wouldn't mind few augmentations.
I would happily get cybernetic limbs if it was available now.
Would beat having constant pain in my knee.

Do you get still get phantom pain, by the way? One leg amputee told me he has it, but who's going to believe heroin junkie, right.

Former rugbyfag here.

Lingering:
Left knee: Dislocated a few times, occasionally locks up
Right knee: Dislocated, broke
Both knees: highly weakened meniscus, pop like crazy
Right shoulder: Dislocated AC, needed surgery, still pops
Left shoulder: Dislocated collarbone, didn't heal right because lol midwest hick doctors.

Current:
Broke my thumb over Thanksgiving, still in a brace for another week
Pulled my left lat yesterday reaching for something in lab.

Getting old sucks.

fucking adductor magnus. I get sharp pains after i squat and its not DOMS because thats more subtle.
I think one of the reasons i'm getting injured is due to over stretching. But i dunno i'm just taking things slowly and reassessing my form.

Was in a car accident this January, I broke my tib/fib, femur (rods were infused inside these bones) and humerus which then lead to radial nerve palsy for five months. Luckly im walking now with little pain and my hand is working like new. 10/10 recovery would do again.

>do you advise against continuing or were you being careless?
not careless, it was simply a combination of several things.
1 I am hypermobile in my back.
2 I hyperextended because we were taught to keep a "strong and proud posture".
3 guess what happens when you overextend your spine with +40 kgs of gear for several months
>if careless, how do you suggest avoiding injury?
do a fuckton of meme core training and strength training before hand. also use a slow and steady progression. do those and you'll do fine. if you experience wierd pain and shit that wont go away, get it researched. because you want that sorted when shit begins

I had intense, crippling sciatica from an L4L5 herniation. Dealt with that shit for about a year, taking rx muscle relaxants, oxies, percs, you name it. Tried acupuncture, PT, steroid injections, nothing worked.

> I know the constant pain sucks but after they cut a piece out of you, you're never going to be the way you were before.

You really don't know anything lol. I had the surgery, and personally, I'm stronger than I was before. I can't exactly powerlift anymore, but I'm ottermode as fuck. Squat 235 5x5, bench 195 5x5, but I can only deadlift around 225 5x5 safely, all at 153lb body weight.

And if you want to shit on my hurdur anecdotal evidence, the procedure has come an extremely long way in recent years. Search "microdiscectomy"

Toughing it out for 2 years left me 50lbs lighter than I was pre-injury, depressed, and suffering from a crippling oxy-about to be heroin addiction.

Just do the fucking procedure.
>>
Bad trap hematoma (bruise) from playing rugby. Really fucked me up, couldn't use my arm for the better part of 2 months.

Just getting back into it now, so many lost gains. Makes me feel like shit
>>
Wrist problems from throwing punches when I was younger, it comes and goes. Really prevents me from doing push ups and flares up if I do.
>>
>>35195897
i can totally sympathize with you. hence my emphasis on the "it sucks" part.

there was a period of about 2 straight years where i'd injure myself, take time off to recover, get a new injury, take time off to recover, and so on and so forth. it was crushing to see gains coming relatively quickly and then having to drag myself away from the gym to not exacerbate the problems that kept cropping up.

i haven't been injured now in about 2 years and am in better shape than ever and i owe a lot of that to my mobility work.
>>
>>35205984
>"microdiscectomy"
Although it has 90% - 95% success rates it hasn't been around long enough for any studies of long term effects. Believe me I had to take a good long long look at operations. But being 20, I can't stress enough how important long term effects are to me

>can't exactly powerlift anymore
Sorry, shitting on it anyways

I'm not pro operation or against it, I'm just putting my thoughts out there for anon to read and consider, if you think surgery is your only option by all means get the surgery
