I haven't gone to the barber in 15 years. First I just let me hair grow out, then I started going bald when I was 23 (no bald spot or receding hairline, hair just got thinner and thinner), which was when I bought one of pic related and went Saitama mode.

Well when I let my hair out, I noticed that there was fewer hair hanging on the sides of my face, I couldn't really pull off the long straight hair look as well as I used to. Also ponytails became smaller and smaller. Then I started to see glimpses of my scalp through my hair from store mirrors, and one day I noticed that I could straight up see through my hair if I tilted my head down even a little.

The bangs being weaker was just a small thing, I didn't really mind. Ponytails getting smaller was concerning, but it was gradual so I figured I might be imagining it. The store mirrors show such an extreme angle that I thought I had made my ponytail badly, stacking hair on one side with less on the other (it happens), but when my home mirror started showing my scalp, I decided that this is beyond denial and it's time to move to start my life as a bald man.
