What size dumbbells does someone need to get ripped.

I live on an island with only 400 residents. No gym. Only way to get to a city is by a 2 hour flight. Looking to get some big dumbbells for home work out.

Advice?
>>
Where the fuck do you live
>>
>>34909226
Get a barbell and weights. You'd have to buy dozens of different sizes of dumbbells for progression.

Don't take the bait.

While living on an isolated island is plausible,
asking about dumbbells in this manner is not.
>>
Get adjustable dbs obviously.
>>
>>34909234
But dumbbells come adjustable too yeah?

So I could buy like a set of dumbbells with 50kg in weights. How far would that get me?
>>
>>34909249
Starting from DYEL, at least a couple years before anything heavier would be useful.
>>
>>34909226
You're gonna need a lot more than one dumbell, amigo.
>>
>>34909263
I meant what size adjustable dumbbell, not a fixed size. Sorry

Regardless it takes more than dumbbells

Curling doesnt train your whole body

m8 stewart island is far from a tropical paradice. we don't even have qts, just 300 pound fat white women
>>
>>34909226
if not troll, just get a BB and some weights, they're not gonna be any more expensive shipping to your shithole than DBs and much more practical
>>
>>34909270
? you can do a crapload of exercises with dumbbells wtf
>>
adjustable to max 50kg will be enough for a while
>>
>>34909289

here in america all we have is 400lb white women
>>
>>34909317

I've got something I'll ship to your shithole

Sounds like my kind of place. How do you survive there, what is employment like? I'd be happy to move and we can share my homegym.
>>
>>34909289
Nice, you only got the small fats.
>>
I recommend a barbell and weights up to 400 pounds. If you must get dumbbells, just get the adjustable kind with the handles. Then you can easily load them up to suit each exercise.

you can get olympic dumbbells, so any weights you have would also fit on a barbell.

some guy said he could fit 6x45 plates on one side of his oly dumbbell.

so that is a 540lb dumbbell.

obviously way more than anyone would need.

you can do most lifts with dumbbell instead of barbell (even deadlift)

but for thinks like squat and powerclean, you are going to want a bar (i suppose you could do a super-heavy goblet squat but.. back squatting is going to be better)
>>
>>34909226
well the optimal would be to get a power rack and a bench, a barbell and enough weight to go up to about 2.5 pl8, but if you really want a dumbbell focus get a pair of these and matching threaded weights, i'd say enough weight to get to 70lb's per hand and an adjustable bench

If you need specifics of have questions ask
>>
>>34910236
no wonder you don't think dumbbells are optimal
>enough weight to get 70lb per hand
you only fuck with baby weight.

they make heavy dumbbells too, you know.

2 dumbbles with ~50 kg weights. Only problem will be legs.
>>

>>
>>34910253
what about goblet squats?
>>
>>34910249
I'm assuming he's a beginner, when he needs higher weight he'll buy higher weight
>>
>>34910258
right, but that only makes dumbbells more optimal, as they guarantee a symmetrical workout, even for people with less than perfect form.
>>
>>34910276
I don't think having the dumbbell vs barbell argument is within the scope of this thread
>>
>>34910039

no!
that's a bad anon!
you stop that!
don't make me smack your nose with newspaper... you cut that shit out!
NO!
that's a BAD anon... we do NOT shitpost like that all over the thread.
you go OUTSIDE to shitpost.

you're lucky i don't rub your nose it in, really.
>>
>>34910253
he could do one legged squats while holding dumbells
>>
Adjustable dbs, pull up bar, bench. Ideally a power cage and a bar
>>
>>34910250
i have these plus a metal bar i can screw them into.

it can't support terribly much weight, but i have gone as high as 2pl8 without issue....

its pretty nice, having the best of both worlds.

take a bit to screw them into the bar/unscrew them out of it... but if you hum the "transformers" theme song, it goes by quicker.

one day i want to get a legit metalworker to make me one that can tolerate 4pl8, so i will have the ultimate in barbell/dumbbell conversion technology
>>
>>34910324
>bench
what's wrong with floor press, tho?
>>
>>34909289
Just deadlift hamplanets
>>
>>34909257
>at least a couple years before you need more than 50kg

holy shit, is this nigger for realious?

i was benching more than that after a goddamn month.
>>
>>34910260
>goblet squats
This should work plus add split squats. Unfortunately you will never get huge legs with this weights. But easy you can get ripped. I'm personally a big fan of dumbbels.
>>
Why do you even want to get big? There are 400 residents who even cares at that point

how do people get jobs?
>>
>>34910349
if you do shrimps with a heavy dumbbell in one hand, you can get some pretty big thighs.

enough to where i stopped training quads/hamstrings and started focusing only on glutes and calves for my lower body.

but then i have pretty good genetics, and my thighs were pretty big even before i lifted (as was my everything else, desu)
>>
>>34910348
cool story bro. You realize 2 50kg dumbbels is 2pl+ bench
>>
>>34910367
>has never been to a small town in his life.
>>
>>34910376
>a dumbbell set with 50kg in weights

nigger, please learn how to read.

but yes, a dumbbell set with 100kg would be much better, except for things like deadlift
>>
>>34910336
Range of motion i guess
>>
>>34910395
your elbows aren't supposed to go below parallel anyways...

if you have your elbows pointed forward instead of flared out, you should be touching your chest before you go below parallel..

that is... assuming you have a chest to touch the bar too.
>>
>>34910078
kek
>>
>>34909226
You'd be better off opening a small gym on your island. Squat rack or two, few 100kg in weight, couple of benches and it would pay for itself if you can persuade 10 dudes to join for a year. Plus you'd actually have a chance of making gains.
>>
>>34909226
Power rack
Bar+plates
Bench

You're set
>>
>>34909289
Then what the fuck is the point in lifting? Everyone here lifts for qt3.14 gf's. If you have no chance of that there's no need to lift.

>>

>>34909238
Tell DoC that the environment is unhealthy for humans and that you need a gym to keep fit. Use the fatties that live there as an example
>>
>>34909226
You could do well with 90s, but they'll be too big for a beginner.
>>
>>34910881

That's a recipe for broken foot.

>>34910415
I'm laying on the ground right now so my arms can't go past parallel
Your telling me that with my forearms vertical (like they should be for bench press) that there is some angle I can move my arms where I touch my chest with a bar like this?

1) Get a bag and a scale
2) Go to beach
3) Fill bag with sand
4) Weigh filled bag on scale

You can use them like old school weights (kettlebells in english?). A 50 lbs bag of sand will be much harder to lfit than a 50 lbs dumbell or barbell anyway.

Why spend money? You got everything you need for free. Well, except the bag maybe.
>>
>>34911390
>2) Go to beach
>3) Fill bag with sand

don't do that, it's' a crime. Just go the local landscape supply and get some.

Awkward shit like that is only harder to handle. It isn't shit for actual movements. That's why farmers are fat fucks with no mass. It's a technique issue.

Get in a pushup position. Do this on knuckles. Go down until your chest touches the ground. Elbows will go past parallel.

>waiting for that one guy to say he was only pretending to be retarded

Just get a pullup bar and a heavy resistance band for good measure you little bitch.
