You're too self conscious about wearing a backpack. No one cares so look as it's appropriate for your outfit.
If you feel like you need something more "adult" and don't want to wear a satchel, get a weekender/holdall bag or a Filson type briefcase.

Backpacks.
And I'm almost 40.

They are just by far the most practical because they don't get in the way when you crouch down/climb over stuff/etc.

I do own several backpacks and pick the smallest that will fit everything I need for the day.
Only big backpacks look retarded IMO.

Are you 90 years old? I suppose you could get a small leather suitcase. A manbag/satchel on an older man looks wrong on so many levels.

Maybe look at some traditional camera bags. Loads of pockets and compartments. Billingham bags are cool.

can almost guarantee you are not too old for a backpack. there are many good ones that don't look childish. if you really don't want one then you could get a messenger bag
