all of these contemporary boot styles are older than anyone posting on this board, they WILL all work in a given ~fashionable~ fit. just because you learnt who jil sander was like 2 weeks ago does not mean that chelseas are shit because all you wanna wear is fucking carhartt and norse projects.

people are so fucking closed minded, fashion is about exploring, not wearing the same fucking thing every day.

Hello gentlemen.

I have a pair of polished black boots and questions about maintaining them so they last as long as possible. I have read conflicting information on the internet and I'd like to know if anyone here can set me straight.

Is this the place for the question, or should I head over to /diy/?
>>
>>8803680
They're ASOS. I know, I know, but the price is decent and they look great IMO, so while I'm saving up for some real YSL ones I thought I might as well.
>>
>>8803683
Go to reddit's goodyearwelt sub. /fa/ is full of students who've never owned a pair of boots longer than six months.
>>
>>8803683

Conditioner every 3-4 wears. Saphir renovateur or AE cleaner/conditioner. Use an old cotton undershirt.

Follow condition by a polish and shine every 20 wears. Clean and condition with shoe trees on, wait 24 hours, use undershirt to apply polish lightly, wait to dry, buff with a horsehair brush

Shoe trees all the time, NO EXCEPTIONS

48 hours between wearings, unless they get wet in which case, longer

Never let them touch salt

That pretty much applies to all shoes, btw
>>
>>8803694
Don't buy cheap shoes, it isn't worth it.
>>
>>8803861

What exactly does the shoe tree do?

Why 48 hours between wearings?

What if salt is unavoidable in my given environment?

I just wanted a pair of boots for daily wear. Will not leaving them sit for 48 hours with shoe trees just reduce the lifespan? If so, by how much?

Is Kiwi polish decent, or should I find something else?

And here I thought these were supposed to be indestructible
>>
>>8803899
>What exactly does the shoe tree do?
It keeps them in roughly the same shape as your foot, so when the moisture from your feet evaporates, the leather dries in the correct shape. This puts less stress on them when you put them back on since the "natural" shape is the shape of your foot.

>Why 48 hours between wearings?

Leather needs to dry

>What if salt is unavoidable in my given environment?

Then you accept a shorter service life, or you put those gay rubber things over them. Hopefully, you bought ones with rubber soles and not leather.

>I just wanted a pair of boots for daily wear. Will not leaving them sit for 48 hours with shoe trees just reduce the lifespan? If so, by how much?

Yes. You'd probably get 4-5 years out of them if you aren't totally abusing them. Subtract a little if they get wet often.

>Is Kiwi polish decent, or should I find something else?

It's fine. Some people get snobby about their polish but with the situation you described, the brand of shoe polish isn't going to make a difference.
>>
>>8803927

These boots do have rubber soles, yes.

I happen to have a redwing "peet dryer". I have read that heat is bad for leather, but the box states it's safe to use with leather. Will this go a ways towards preserving my boots by drying them out in a <48 hour period, or just deform them from lack of trees and mild heat?

Thank you for all your advice.

4-5 years will still be a far sight better than the 1.5 my last pair of similarly priced tennis boots lasted.
>>
>>8803961

I'm not familiar with that product, but I'd guess that it's better than wearing them every day and not using it.
