Is there some particular reason that runway models are so hideous today?

I understand that the audience is supposed to be looking at the clothes, but when the models are uglier than sin it tends to create a distraction in itself.

If they're just supposed to be hangers for the clothes, then why not send robots down the runway with the same face and frame?

They look "interesting"... unusual = attract attention
>>
because gay dudes have no taste in women

if they were straight tho, models would all be butterfaces with huge fake tits
>>
>>8597053
This. Gay guys are basically picking women closest to the twinks they like to bang.
>>
>>8597053
you sound stupid and underage, no insight
>>
>>8597079
Except most designers aren't gay.
>>

she's really not ugly; maybe you just have shit taste

Designers don't pick models you idiots.
>>
>>8597083
It's gay to fuck 17 year old boys even if they are hairless and skinny, dude.
>>
>>8597093
She does look pretty ugly imo, and her face is clearly asymmetrical which seems like a big no no for a model.
>>
>>8597099
ouch lul
yeah rick models just look like that because of his magical aura
yohji has short, old and fat models because thats all you can find in Japan this time of year
hedi slimane has to choose lanlets because rick accidently took all the beefy models who magically realise that working out is modern couture

So it's gay to fuck a skinny girl? Nigga are you still in highschool?
>>
>>8597118
They are noteable for exceptions, and yet even rick and yohji have used mainstream agencies in the past. Everyone else just calls up their modelling agency and asks for three dozen underage girls.
>>
>>8597114
Everyone's faces are asymmetrical. Models aren't an exception. Besides, her face isn't too noticeably asymmetrical anyway, compared to the average person's
>>
>>8597152
Its pretty noticeable to me, even without enlarging the picture. It looks like the left side of her face has been slightly pulled by a marionette string, especially those eyes.

Sometimes beauty is better appreciated firsthand, anyway

I saw these four models together hanging outside of the SLP fashion show. The blond one on the right looked the most interesting and aesthetic to me, but in this picture he looks kinda ugly. His head definitely didn't look that comically wide in person. Also the eyes of the guy second from the right looked farther apart in person

model agencies do that, and thats why there are model agents and model scouts

>implying i want to shoot inside her instead on her exotic face

damn, that would be cool

w2c porn with exotic faced models?
>>
>>8596952
They're supposed to look weird/exotic but still have white (slim) features

Their unconventional beauty matches the unconventional clothing that they wear
>>
Because the aim for runway models is that they all be tall and as close to the same measurements as each other as possible to make the fittings easier, not to be stunning.
And because they're so above the average for women you're going to get some with fucked up features just like when men are that much above the average their features distort too.
But unless the model is especially lucrative for some reason (eg Cara Delevigne after winning model of the year, Kate Moss back in the 90s) they'll get hired on proportions and walk, not face.

Print models however can be slightly shorter or less exactly to the necessary proportions because clothes can be pinned in photos and an attractive face sells. You can't pin on a runway and you're not selling to the same women.
>>
>>8597099
They might not actively pick them but they get final say.
There's plenty of cases of models being picked for them and when they assess them before the show they'll decide to kick one out because they don't fit the look they want.

fuck, i need to go out more in diferent places
>>
Bit of extemporaneous, romanticizing pop theory I wrote when someone asked a near identical question a little while back:

>Lily is amazing. A lot of people on the Internet, and a lot of fashion people have talked so much shit about Lily and have called her “ugly” and I’ve always defended her. Last night, I was hanging out with all my sisters from the house of Chez Deep, and they follow fashion but they’re not cued-in to all these models or whatever. We’re going through the American Vogue September issue super stoned and we get to Lily McMenamy in that Marc Jacobs ad and Colin Self—this amazing contemporary artist and performer whom I look up to very much—places a finger on Lily’s face and says, “that is the best face I have seen in this entire magazine so far.” Lily appeals to insiders…people who get it!

Hari Nef, http://bullettmedia.com/article/performance-artist-hari-nef-on-prada-dick-pics-and-giant-burritos/

One of the most liberating lessons possible is that beauty isn't really a thing, certainly not a single thing. Not even in a "everyone is beautiful!!!1!" way. But that everyone is beautiful and everyone is ugly if you look at them the right way. "Subjective" doesn't even begin to cover it, because to most ears that'll just make it sound like it's up to stable, endogenous personal preferences in a fully autonomous subject, as if that were a thing. It's way more particular than that - you can find someone beautiful or ugly depending on your mood, it can change with a conscious effort to see their body in a certain light, it can change on the literal light.
>>
>>8603921

But I think the main thing lies in everything about the person besides their meat body. First, of course, where they read as being in the whole social clusterfuck of class, gender, race, etc. Second, on their manner, their bearing, their own idiosyncratic charisma. It's like Cara Delevingne's Twitter bio: "Professional human being." The only thing seperating Cara from every rando beanstalk blonde is that she's Cara, goofy, engaging, laidback, conventionally pretty and classed enough to access everything the world promises good white girls but choosing instead to access other things, sure and untroubled by those choices. Who wouldn't want to engage with someone like that, to look at them, to be in their presence?

At the end the thing that makes someone attractive, sexually or otherwise, I think, is the sense that in this nutso, constricting world they can help us be more fully human, more autonomous, more self-determined, more alive and sensate and creative, as opposed to being meat machines hemmed in, thwarted, dulled, flattened by circumstances. The fashion system exists to [make a buttload of money because they] create and sell us garments that promise to be tools for that. Models are the means by which that promise is made, and they're hired on [a codification of] that basis alone. If they're not quarterback or cheerleader next door types, it's because those people are suburban and basic, and because to ascend to confidence and desirability when the ability to fail at those is inscribed on your *face* speaks to a greater aptitude.

>>8598529

This guy is also right. The codification is pretty iron tight - you have to be the right height and fit customary measurements to be considered, unless the designer is off on their own casting program, and after that everything else comes in.

1) To be glib, move where there's not WalMarts.

2) To be less glib, move somewhere with a/some real culture/s of capital-F Fashion, where there's social worlds where giving the kind of shit you want people to give is a cover charge.

3) To be more helpful, moving where there's the kind of people you want to be amongst is really one of the best things you can do for yourself. Or even more: moving where you can live the kind of life you need to right then.

For me, I'm an urbanite to the core desperately in love and gratuitously pleased by all the things humans do in the social and cultural sphere. Long term, I can't live anywhere but a cosmopolitan city. Too much time outside one and I feel some of my favorite things about myself atrophying, and see myself missing opportunities for experience and achievement I TBH can't afford to.

At the same time, too much time in one, and I find myself needing an off season: time spent where I can pretend it's not my darkly beloved anthropocene and/or where the weight of the social world is left behind. Where, paradoxically, I can just *be* human. Usually when whatever I'm doing in the metropolis isn't working to get me to that feeling, the one where it feels like you're in touch with what it is to be a living human, as spurious as that notion looks in the flourescent lights of an academy. Switch modes and fuck it all off to something that does work, until I get bored.

TL;DR move to New York/Paris/Berlin/Tokyo, wish you were in a cabin over a sea cliff surrounded by supplies you bought at the WalMart an hour away, always try to forget you were dissatisfied everywhere.

Good God I'm raw tonight, but what would /fa/ be without feels threads.

4) Seriously, quit with the "hipster poser bitch," "regular birtch," "nxtlvl qt tall girl" shit. Bad for everyone involved.

Not a white knight thing at all. Not like white knights are actually a thing anyway, but the flipside of this is actually kind of harrowing. Like with any liberation, the possibility to flourish necessitates the possibility to totally wash out and fail.

Kind of an extreme example, but it's the one coming to mind: Kissinger. About as close to objectively as possible an ugly-ass motherfucker, he managed to bomb and charm his way into being a sex symbol party boy by night, genocide enabler by day.

But I can't recall being more disgusted or discombobulated by a human as I was when I saw him leaving a conference and he stared me down until he slipped into his waiting black car, which I later heard from others is apparently something he just does to demonstrators who he notices recognizing him.
