Never received any shit for wearing a pair of desert combat boots that a military brother gave me years ago, and I wear them all of the time. If anything I get the occasional compliment. (Granted I live in a desert but the same applied when I lived closer to the coast)
They're comfy and they work well with a lot of fits.
