I wear a suit, have a full beard, and work in a business formal setting.

Recommendations for year round scents?
>>
I like NOIR fragrances, right now using 1740 Marquis De Sade and there is like 1nl left.

And I am thinking - what should l choose - two middle average fragrances, one for the day, and one noiry for evening, or one expensive?
What can you suggest for me? I have like $300-400

No one gives a shit about a guy thats in it for the money and pretends to love fragrance with his little kit he totally doesn't pull out just for the camera. Everything he shows he gets sent to him, the tiny "kit" vials we given to him by the supplier for recognition, despite being a model and should know some basic legal shit he can't disclose for crap. Anyone who critiques him is immediately a "jealous hater" apparently too. He just has a fanbase he can easily manipulate with fake acting and "OMG HE DID THE SIGNATURE TWIRL THEREFORE HE REALLY LOVES WHAT HE DOES!!!!!" He is an insult to people that genuinely love fragrances, sure he's your go to guy for compliments, but his opinion on the industry shouldn't be held above anyone else's cause all the insight he gets is free shit from companies or events, nothing more.

The best thing is when you go to a couple of stores from the same franchise and ask them for a recommandation they will all point to the same fragrance. In spring I was looking for something light and citrusy (so 50% of mens scents), 3 different Sephoras in 3 different cities and the assistants would always point me to the new Jimmy Choo first...

Use crystal deodorant such as pic related along with antibacterial bar soap in the shower. The deodorant soap helps to ensure complete bacteria kill, and rubbing the mineral salt stick into your damp armpits leaves a residue that inhibits bacteria growth. No bacteria means no stink. I apply scent directly to the armpits after using the stick.
>>
>>12713095
Huh? They're good beginner fragrances.
>>
>>12713073
You can buy both sure. But if you don't have many frags, need some other types of frags (I.e winter, casual summer, work etc) and don't have much to spend then just get one of them (I would say Eros)
>>
>>12713135
>But if you don't have many frags, need some other types of frags (I.e winter, casual summer, work etc)

How do you tell the different categories of fragrances apart in this sense? I really have no clue what makes something appropriate for one season over another. I wouldn't be wearing them every single day, but just when going out/on dates/etc.
>>
>>12713152
After you smell enough you will start to learn the differences

A good casual summer scent should have a citrus, fresh and light scent.

Something for going out in winter should be heavier possibly with darker notes of tobacco and whisky/run etc

For dates I don't think you can go past Dolce & Gabbana The One. The projection isn't great but the scent is amazing. The perfect skin scent

Sauvage is also a great to one to have as it can be worn to literally any occasion
>>
>>12713168
>The perfect skin scent

What does this mean? And do categories overlap? Like are there different fragrances for dates in winter vs dates in summer vs work in winter?

Burberry London?
>>
>>12713394

Eros for cooler temps and Invictus for warmer nights though you could wear Eros in summer too

Invictus is a summer scent. Eros is pretty versatile, because the citrus and mint are good for summer, but the vanilla and tonka give it enough substance to stand up in colder weather.

The word (or acronym since you capitalized it) NOIR isn't a meaningful adjective in regards to fragrance. There are many, many (hundreds? scores at least) scents with "Noir/e" in the name, but there is no common denominator connecting all of them. Lately, it seems like an excuse to add vanilla.

I just found it odd that you use the word, in all caps no less, and expect others to know what you mean by it.

In any case, some dark, smoky woody favorites:
Antaeus
Aoud Cuir d'Arabie (etc.)
Encre Noire (& à l'Extrême/Sport)
La Yuqawam Tobacco Blaze pH
Narciso Rodriguez fH

I dont plan on displaying my fragrances so I dont really give a shit about fancy packaging and whatnot.
I just want to save some money but I dont want to buy testers if they are weaker versions of non tester fragrances.

I'm no expert. I don't own a lot of frags.

Testers seem to be a common disguise for fakes. It's up to you. I may not have the greatest of faith in the perfume industry, but I believe that their juices will have less carcinogens than whatever those who create replica scents can cook up.

Is there a way to tell how much harmful bullshit like this a legit frag has? Lately I've begun feeling like I should really be worrying more about it.
>>
>>12713686
Eau Fraiche is actually really nice. From Versace I have Eau Fraiche (x2), Pour Homme, Dylan Blue and Eros. I would say Eau Fraiche is overall the nicest in terms of scent, though it's really for summer only and projection isn't great.

Compared to DB, Sauvage just stands out way more and lasts and projects better than DB. It's much fresher and more airy. DB has this strange kind of quality about it, like they've taken Sauvage and mixed it with shampoo. It's kind of like a more subtle version of Sauvage so I think it could be a more suitable work scent. But overall I would pick Sauvage. In fact I would take it over any other frag I own out of 25 or so. It's just so versatile.
>>
>>12713721
>I would say Eau Fraiche is overall the nicest in terms of scent, though it's really for summer only and projection isn't great.

Terre d'Hermès is a good summer fragrance. Great projection and it's a masterfully done fragrance.

I just got a used bottle of Chanel Eau de Cologne. I'm starting to agree to the statement by M Turin that it's the best cologne in the world. The only problem is it's longevity- feels like it becomes a skin scent in about two hours. I know I'm supposed to apply cologne liberally, but even with my 200ml bottle I'm not used to using up so much precious liquid at once. Maybe I'll carry around an atomiser to top up at regular intervals instead.

Watch the documentary.

My mom died from cancer, I'm probably going to get it too. I think that there's other environmental exposures that are far greater than this, but I still think it's a risk worth taking. A bit like smoking, only I don't smoke anywhere close to regularly, and only smoke cigars. Enjoying dying (which we all are, all the time) beats not enjoying dying. It'd be great to have studies and whatnot to base this on, but I haven't looked into it.
>>
someone should make a discord
>>
>>12713249
Basically, very heavy, sweet, spicy scents, things with lots of vanilla, tobacco, spices, boozy notes, etc. can become very cloying and unpleasant in hot weather, so it's usually best to wear them during the winter (or at night). Likewise, lighter citrusy, aquatic, floral scents can be very muted and not project well during the winter, so they're best worn during the summer.

Yes, some scents are versatile enough to be worn year round, mostly things that have spice or vanilla notes that aren't too heavy paired with lighter notes. Some like Versace Eros, for example.
>>
>>12714057
>Suggestions?
For what based on what criteria?
>>
>>12714059
>Should how you apply change depending on the fragrance?
Yes. You wouldn't apply a beast on exposed skin just before walking in to work. Rive Gauche pH comes to mind That is one I apply to chest only and maybe rub a tiny bit on arms/neck as its top notes are really strong and I don't want to gas people out at work. My pasta on the subject:

I do 2-5 sprays generally, depending on frag, atomizer, occasion, etc. Most frags 3-4 sprays. 1-2 on chest for nice wafts from under collar all day, 1 on back of neck, 1-2 on forearm(s). Avoid proximity to nose, i.e. face/front of neck, to prevent olfactory fatigue. Under clothing mutes projection. On hair/clothing holds on to top notes longer, but just a dusting as some frags stain some fabrics.

Best to test application in more casual situations and best to ask others about projection, rather than rely on your own nose. And always err on the side of caution if unsure in more important occasions.

Ok guys, I need some help. I know these threads mostly tend to be for men's frags, but I need some refs on female frags, because I know very little about them comparatively.

So, my mom just helped me buy my first home. She's an awesome lady and has always been amazing to me, and I want to get her something nice as a little thank you.

So, I know she wears Balenciaga Paris, she also has L'eau D'issey. I bought her a bottle of Balenciaga Florabotanica a while back and she liked that one a lot. I know she likes lavender and aquatics. She also likes Amouage Jubilation and Creed Royal Water and MI on me, if that helps a lot.

I was thinking maybe Amouage Dia Women. I want something nice, something fairly high-end. Maybe up to 350.00 or so. Anyone have any experience with Dia? Any other recommendations I should look into?

I'll take a look at those. The thing is, I know she likes Jubilation on me, but I don't know if it's something she would like to smell like, you know what I mean? It seems like most of the fragrances she wears are mostly floral-ozonic-green-aquatic-aromatic types.

Looking for a rec - I fucking love the leather note in Tuscan Leather/La Yuqawam/Golden Boy/Godolphin etc etc but I get really turned off by the sweet fruity notes that always accompany it. Is there anything that is straight up suede all the way through or maybe has a light citrus opening?

what do you think of it or can you describe it in relation to any well known fragrances

It's coffee/vanilla/chocolate. Similar to Michael Jordan Legend, which I might actually prefer. And in the ballpark of New Haarlem, but NH is smoother and more bakery-like.

And ha. I'm the guy who's usually fighting with people like that. I have a dozen niche/"exclusif" bottles, but my wardrobe is overwhelmingly designer, albeit with more than a few vintage and discontinued bottles. I don't really see the point of differentiating between designer and niche. They're all just fragrances. I decide if a bottle is worth the price to me and I buy it or I don't.

Creed MI. You can wear it anytime, it smells great, very sophisticated, high quality, women fucking love it. It's not my absolute favorite ever, but if I had to pick just one, that's it.

1. Want to get Amouage Myths Man.
How it is? Smoky? Is it like holding some secret? Like, for example, 1740 Marquis De Sade.
2. Is Molecule 01 smelling anything at all? Want to try, everybody says it is 10/10.

3. Why, for example, the Myths Man on Luckyscents is 300$+, and on Notino 170$.
Will I get the same perfume, same notes, same magic?

It's in the OP.

I think the risk is insignificant, but still there. And like you're starting to realize, bioactive synthetic chemicals are all around us. Plastics contain them too. Flouride in your mouthwash and toothpaste kill bacteria in your mouth as well as in your digestive system.

The issue is that studies seem limited, because of the secrecy involved with these chemicals.

The edp and edt are very different. I prefer the edt, it's much creamier on the dry down. The edp also smells more of cedar and less sandalwood, its more like other woody smells I tried.
I'd say the 100ml of edt is worth it.

Overall definitely Eau Extreme. It's a tonka bomb and smells great although a bit thick up close. But it's like a fresh tonka, with these citrusy undertones that come through great in the heat. In cooler weather, the pepper is more noticeable. Most versatile of the line, and the most attractive
especially is you smell the sillage, my god it's amazing.

Amouage frags tend to be very polarizing. You smell 10 of their frags, you'll like 5 and and absolutely hate 5.

Personally, I have Bracken, Jubilation, and Reflection, and I love them all. Reflection is kind of a clean laundry scent, but it's the best damn clean laundry scent ever. So fresh and clean smelling, a little sweet, a little floral, a little woody, very natural smelling, very well-blended and sophisticated.
>>
>>12715085
Anyone else have any thoughts on this? This is pretty important to me.
>>
>give female coworker a sample vial of YSL Mon Paris

>days later girl asks "Anon, why does my Mon Paris smell lighter and doesn't last as long as the sample you gave me?"

>different ribbon
>look at bottom of bottle
>eau de toilette

Why do YSL insist on issuing EdT variations of female frags after their initial EdP release? I didn't know they made a Mon Paris EdT and poor coworker wasted $65.

Go out to some stores and try some

You need to find what you like
>>
>>12717490
Notino and Fragrancenet are reliable gray market (discount) sites. They sell genuine, high-quality scents at up to 70% less than retail. Be aware that for Fragrancenet they play a weird game with discount coupon pricing. There is always a "sale" happening, but the discount can range from 20% to 35% from one day to the next, or even on two different devices on the same day. I tend to prefer Notino for this reason.

Do not buy from Amazon as a general rule. Ebay sellers with high positive recent reputation (1000+ feedback) are usually safe.

If you want to start out a winner in the fragrance game, begin by copping a 100ml bottle of Bleu de Chanel eau de toilette. It is the modern classic men's fragrance, suitable for literally any occasion and weather.
>>
>>12717490
As already said, check out fragrancenet.com and notino.com, or fragrancebuy.ca if you're in leafland. Go in and sample at department stores or sephora. At the former location they'll hound you to try certain frags, just politely say you're just browsing and you'll ask if you have a question. I find sephora's pretty good about asking once and then leaving you alone, they also hand out up to 3 free samples of any frags they have. If you want to order samples online of what you can't find in stores, see the online retailers in the OP.
>>
>>12717490
fragrancebuy.ca if you're in the U.S. or Canada. They're legit, I've ordered from the tons of times, have great customer service, pretty good selection, and great prices. They're in Canada and their prices are in CAD, so if you're in the U.S., they basically have a permanent 25% off everything sale. If you're in Canada, you don't have to pay customs fees or an exchange rate and shipping is super quick.

They also have a loyalty program where you can earn discounts and shit, and adds up pretty fast.

Oh, my bad. I've been meaning to get around to that.

The inescapable nature of it all is just rather horrifying. Cancer runs in my family too, but not always fatally, so I'm torn between trying to mitigate the risk by avoiding things where I can and just giving up on trying completely.

Such a goddamn shame about the secrecy. It clearly isn't even doing any good at preventing replicas.

testing as of late:

tom ford oud mineral:

manly, musky, oceanic, salty, seaweed, lasts forever. i found it a little unsettling at first but I've grown to appreciate it, no sweetness whatsoever, just pure beachy goodness

etat libre d'orange fat electrician:

vanillic vetiver, dirty, a little chocolatey? not overly powerful and moderate longevity. not something i'd wear/buy but a pleasant scent

frederic malle, dries van noten

sweet vanilla cookies with a side of wood chips. this shit is very powerful, one spray will have people from a distance pick it up. the woody/medicnal note staves off the gourmand-ness. it's unique and beautifully blended, i only have 10 ml and am not sure i could commit to a full bottle, but i take time fully appreciate a fragrance

It's a citrus frag that's not sweet. Citrus is always popular. Remember all the bergamot frags that came out last decade?

Being citrus, it still evaporates after a few hours and is not worth the price.

>>

>>12718540

If they decanted into your sample by spraying, then the longevity might be affected, I get anywhere between 16-20+ hours consistently.

Someone on Fragrantica was underwhelmed too. But the thing is if you are expecting more than what it listed in terms of notes, then I don't know what to say. I don't know if your experience differs but at the start I get a lovely punch of bitter oak moss and hefty bergamot, with a little earthy patchouli and a touch of the labdanum and ambergris. If theres something that blocks your nose almost and smells powdery that would be the alpha iso methyl ionone which is used to evoke orris/iris. The rose is very soft for me and the jasmine is dominant, when the base starts to come into play thats when it gets really delicious for me. What did you get when you tried your sample? I just hope they didn't water it down for you or make it suffer on its longevity.

Bel Respiro for a floral green maybe? If you can find vintage Vent Vert, too. Venetian Bergamot, Chamade and New Look 1947 are all pretty white florals.

Lavender for a woman... That's tough. Everything I think of with lavender comes off as very masculine, except maybe Forreau Noir, which is the best lavender I've ever smelt.

Other feminine fragrances I've found that are pretty but might not be what you're looking for: Amouage Gold, Coromandel, Galop d'Hermès, Kalemat Amber, Songe d'un bois d'ete, Apres l'Ondee, Khol de Bahrein. Just throwing things out there.

>>
>>12719745
I'm not either. Well its pretty much the same as perfume. Perfume is just the oils diluted by water, solvents, carrier molecules and alcohol to whatever concentration the perfumer wants it to be. Therefore, an attar won't project nearly as much as a traditional perfume would, but depending on the ingredients will cling to your skin and last for ages.

The thing thats crazy to me is that you can get an attar with good quality ingredients with minor synthetics for about the same price that ranges from designer to acceptable-ish niche perfumes. Not saying you should convert from perfume to attar but if you want a good fragrance to smell on yourself but not want to worry about other peoples noses reacting badly, an attar can be a lovey personal haven. You won't necessarily have a "bubble" like you would with perfume projection but if you apply to the wrist and waft your hands, it will then start to sillage gently for someone sat close to you.

Would you like it if you got stuck sitting next to some dude who reeked of some horrible frag you hated? Flying sucks enough without people doing inconsiderate shit.
>>
>>12720219
lol too bad, i put something on wherever i go
>>
>>12720248
Do you know that airplane filters air and the air is not enclosed at least 30 years already?
>>
>>12720251
Yeah, yourself still sitting right next to a bunch of other people who will have to smell you the entire time. It's no better than some dude having rank BO on a plane.

>>
>>12720261
People can get up and leave those places, though, or move away from you. Can't do that on a plane.
>>
>>12720254
fuck off mate, stop caring what other people think
>>
>>12720264
Good luck with leaving a car. You love GTA?
>>
>>12720265
Yeah, fuck being considerate! Who cares about other people, I get to smell nice!

Guess how I know you're American.
>>
>>12720275
yes i do smell nice, thank you

why are you on a fashion board if you're so self conscious lmao
>>
>>12720202
>>12719848
He's right, you know.

>>12720223
My gym's air is almost always thick with body heat and the smell of sweat. That's barely tolerable, so I don't need some douche thinking he's covering up his BO while exerting himself and sweating, turning anything he's wearing up to 11 in an enclosed space where I'm breathing hard, fuck you very much.

Airplane has assigned seating, so just fucking wait til you don't have a crowd around you that can't move. If you take the train to work, you gotta put something on before you leave the house, so tough titty. At least you can move away from someone choking you out.
>>
>>12720315
you know you can just do like one spray right?
>>
>>12720318
Or you could just do zero sprays and wait a few goddamn hours. You're not gonna die if you're not covered in smelly water for the duration of a flight.

Back to /pol/

Why are there so many dipshits here all of a sudden? Are we being raided?
>>
>>12720318
Look, IF the person next to me on a plane wore one spray of a light EdC like 4711 or Mugler Cologne on their chest and the AC was working well, of course it wouldn't be the end of the world, but that's a lot of ifs and I'd guess most people wouldn't care to know enough about fragrance to put the thought in to how to wear one appropriate to the occasion.

The gym, otoh, is verboten no matter what.
>>
>>12720406
The plane is already overrun by Staceys rocking 12 sprays of cheap body spray on top of their Victoria's Secret lotion. Also at least a few smelly kebab on any flight to a major city these days. In such a setting, my daily application of Bleu is both defensive and polite.

As for the gym, who fucking exercises in a microbe ridden sweatbox surrounded by savages? The people who willingly spend time in such a cave deserve much worse than a stray whiff of Terre Eau Tres Fraiche.
>>
>>12720181
bump
>>
The bigger question is: why do you absolutely NEED to wear fragrance on the plane? You could just not do and be considerate to the other people on the plane. Why is it absolutely necessary for you to do it?
>>
>>12720436
just like why i need to wear it anywhere else, i like to smell good

Pretty damn good. Really reminds me of women's shampoo, except more fruity floral instead of toxic synthetic shampoo ingredients. Makes me think of being in close proximity to a nice woman's scalp. comfy
>>
>>12720439
to most of us you just smell like cologne, nothing else, no we don't try to figure out the notes and warmth or coldness or if it's powdery or dark or spicy or sandlewood when some skinnyfat piece of shit sits near us reeking of w/e his internet friends told him to buy. the marketers are good at their jobs tho :)

Late as all fuck, but would you happen to have a source on that? The test results in the SDS appear to indicate no carcinogenicity.

Does Molecule 01 even smell?
Should I get a sample or nah? Just want to see what all the fragrantica bitches are talking about.

My gym is cool and well ventilated. I would much rather smell a scent that is at least masked or even mitigated by a more pleasant scent than unadulterated BO when someone walks past. That said, I've never, ever smelt someone who was in the adjacent squat rack, on the adjacent bench or whatever. I understand that if you're in a poorly ventilated tropical area where humidity carries scents better (worse, in a sense) then it would be impolite to do this, but otherwise, I don't see the issue. The impoliteness would come from the perceived overwhelming nature of certain scents, whereas BO can be gross but not overwhelming.

Again though, people come to gyms to sweat. There's no getting away from unwanted scents in a small enough gym.

Not a fan of the traditional calone-esque aquatics, but:
Epice marine
Jardin Apres la Mousson
Sel Marin
Acqua di Sale
>>
>>12720854
No. If you really want it, just get the AC instead: ISO E Super

What will you recommend then for a day? I am just a new fag in perfumery. I wear heavy perfumes, like 1740 Marquis De Sade, and I love orientals like Amouage Journey. But I guess I can not wear my lovely Amouage in a middle of 35 Celsius day under the sun?

how is creed so popular?

so far I've tried aventus, GIT and MI

they all seem to have the same kind of 'dude manly lmao' thing about them in a laid back kind of way compared to most designers which jump out a bit more.

i don't think that makes it better and certainly not worthy of the price. i don't even find the scents to be that great. aventus was probably the best of the three but nothing too special really. something like acqua di gio is way superior desu
>>
>>12720932

that's all there is to it. they make designer type frags at a niche price. GIT would be worth it if there weren't already cheaper alternatives
>>
>>12720945
ok I'm wearing aventus now next to valentino uomo on my inner arm

the uomo is literally 100x better. it smells sexy and manly but sweet and so present. aventus is just a smoky salty pineapple that is very weak. i only sprayed the aventus like 10 minutes before the uomo

the uomo smells expensive and 'professional'. the aventus is like cheap, watered down junk in comparison

not even memeing
>>
>>12720956

I never bought into the aventus hype. That being said, it is unique, performs and the scent cloud is better than smelling it close which lends to massive compliments.

It basically is the niche Sauvage
>>
>>12720983
but sauvage is actually good

this is just a meme

I don't know about the Burberry, but La Nuit is notorious for being hit or miss regarding longevity.
>>
>>12720991
Your brain is just starting ignoring the scent, as it recognises that this particular smell is not dangerous. Everybody still smells it.
For example, if you leave your house for vacation and come back you smell the signature smell of your house, but if you there everyday - you do not even notice it.

A. Sweat ≠ BO
B. Once BO develops, a fragrance doesn't "cover it up," it just competes with it and smells worse
